Shades of Pink

Some very interesting images containing ‘pink’ have caught my attention recently. It all started with this amazing photo of a Roseate Spoonbill taken by Ted Jennings (South Carolina Lowcountry, USA).

Such an array of pinks through to red, incredible! Note that there are pale orange highlights as well – on the tail and under the eye. Unusual combination.

About a month later Jean Mackay published this post showing her stunning watercolour painting of ranunculus flowers together with painting kit. Admiring her photo, I was also taken with the various shades of pink and red in the colours that she’d mixed, and it brought to mind the ‘palette’ of colours displayed in the outstretched wings of the Roseate Spoonbill. It made a big impression on me – I’m utterly fascinated by different expressions of the same or similar colours!

A couple of days ago I was amazed to find pink teamed up with orange again, in these stunning tulip flowers. Not a colour combination I would’ve dreamed up but they actually look stunning!

Sweet Perfection!
Last and definitely not least, is this exquisite Japanese sweet created by Mutsumi for Valentines in February 2018. Mutsumi’s blog ‘Sakura Junction’ has to be one of my top favourites! I’m constantly amazed by the creativity and inspiration evident in each new sweet presented. Mutsumi’s sweets are served at Wasoukan Cafe in Notting Hill, London.

In the post Mutsumi describes this as a ‘Nerikiri’ type of Japanese sweet with rose water added to give some rose scent to the flower part of the sweet. The bottom part of the sweet has a sweet white bean paste centre with raspberry flavour. Mutsumi (London, UK)

I hated it till I was pregnant with my third daughter… suddenly I craved it and had to have it everywhere starting with a six pack of horrendous hot pink granny knickers, something close to your second photo… I have slowly returned to loving green but (19 years later) I do have a hot pink hibiscus hedge. If it matters daughter 3 passed herself off as a boy everywhere till she was in her mid teens. Not a girly girl at all 💚

    1. How lovely, I’m glad you do Candice! I love them too and if I were growing some tulips I’d be very happy to have those. Made me wonder if we have that type available here. Wonder if you have them there? Just a rhetorical question.

  4. The Roseate Spoonbill photo elicited a “WOW, he is stupendous! I love his legs and feet!” from Benjamin…totally won his heart! I must agree that this is one stunningly beautiful bird. Jean Mackay’s enlarged photo is gorgeous, what an amazing talent in those hands. The tulips won Benjamin’s attention, he loves orange. The Sweet Rose has my taste buds wanting one right now! We loved your delightful shades of pink. Thank-you x 2!!

        1. When I was a child yellow and orange together was my favourite. I’ve always loved turquoise. For many years my favourite colour was the red/purple colour maroon. And I love a good spring green colour – I think its called chartreuse! Overall my favourite might be turquoise because I’ve always loved it 🙂

          1. All of them are impressive. I have good memories of orange with citric arom. Orange brings a spiritual strong feeling of benevolence.
