LAPC#209 – Surreal

Tracy from Australia is guest hosting the Lens-Artists Photo Challenge this week and she's chosen the theme of Surreal. Given I'm a NZer and in that sense we're neighbours, in the spirit of solidarity I started checking for photos that might pass for surreal and found these that I'd forgotten from 22 Dec 2021. I'd... Complementary Companions

Two Camellias .. complementary companions. These pretty bright pink, and white-with-pink-blush, flowers look so nice together - a lovely selection to be planted side-by-side as they are at Dunedin Botanic Garden in New Zealand. Photos taken 07 May 2022. I don't have a name for the bright pink plant but the white/pink one is Camellia... Continue Reading →

Christmas Lily

Fossicking among old photos I found this lily pic from 24 Dec 2019, taken with my old and basic cellphone in Dunedin Botanic Garden. I still love the flower! A search online reveals this flower has a variety of common names but in New Zealand it's known as the Christmas lily. Lilium regale. Other names... Continue Reading →

Big Daisies

Found these big daisy flowers in the white-colour-bed at Dunedin Botanic Garden on 07 May. I love daisy flowers! I'd just seen a beautiful white magnolia flower photo by Ellen Jennings and then I opened a folder and saw my white daisies ~so that decided what I'd post this evening 🙂 Dunedin, New Zealand. Text... Five years ago today, on 23 May, I started my blog with a brief and plain post, then launched out into the WP blogger-sphere to see what it's all about. I didn't have a clue! In this first session I happened to meet an Irish poet then working as pattern-maker in Paris, Damien B. Donnelly.... Continue Reading →

Golden Clematis

Golden clematis always stops me in my tracks. I found this not far from our motel in Ranfurly, Central Otago on 13 March, New Zealand. Early autumn. I think it must be Clematis tangutica, from central temperate Asia.

Great Looking

Amazon Lily, Eucharis grandiflora. Gorgeous! And fragrant. In the conservatory at Queens Park, Invercargill, Southland. Yesterday, 11 May. New Zealand. The pots were on the wet floor and the flowers droop down so I had to get a knee on the floor to be low enough to take the first photo with a view into... Continue Reading →

Monarch of Fire Mountain

Monarch butterfly on Dahlia 'Fire Mountain', photos taken yesterday at Dunedin Botanic Garden, New Zealand. I was fortunate to be standing there, nearly ready to photograph the dahlia flowers, when in flew the monarch butterfly!

Geranium ‘Rozanne’

My favourite geranium flower, Rozanne, is so beautiful! To date she's never inhabited a garden of mine but I've admired her at garden centres. This afternoon I was delighted to find her beautiful blooms adorning a traffic island in Gore.. I was able to photograph them from the pedestrian crossing. Gore, Southland, New Zealand. ~Auckland...
