There’s an interesting public garden in Alexandra, Central Otago. On my birthday visit of 31 October there were a nice variety of irises to look at. They have a collection of irises that have won an annual award in America and a sign that lists their names for each year and what colour they are. Nigel took the first photo below. New Zealand.

What fabulous, frilly irises! I always think they look extremely feminine – as if they’re dancing about in their best party dresses – celebrating your birthday of course! 🙂

A wonderful display, Liz, and fun that so many have bloomed together. The timing of your visit was spot-on for seeing this show!

It was spot-on! I had no idea iris-blooming coincided with my birthday lol 😀

🤔 something to put on your calendar for next year’s celebration! Or on Nigel’s ❤️. It was really a lovely location to spend a few days.

Wow. These irises are spectacular, Liz. I have come to appreciate lots of different varieties of irises thanks to my friend Cindy Dyer, who has a large number of them in her garden.

I don’t think I have ever seen such tall irises. Beautiful colors.

They were tall, and with big petals. Real performers. I’ll be putting up pics soon that Nigel took of other irises near where we were staying. They were behind a fence, corralled if you like, which looked pretty funny 😀
