I’m keen to announce my excitement that New Zealand had ZERO new cases of Covid-19 today … yay!!! Obviously we’re not out of the woods yet but it’s a wonderful thing to have reached this point.
Not having a relevant photo to accompany such good news, I thought I’d use a rather pretty fly on aster photo that I took soon before we went into lockdown. Ophir, Central Otago, New Zealand. Taken 22 March 2020

Do you enjoy a good yarn and a nice dog story? Michael Scandling has started telling us about Chewy, the first post is Chewy – Introduction and it’s a hoot 🙂
The second Chewy instalment has also been posted at Michael’s blog (and there’s going to be more).
Bye for now!

Well done NZ! 🙂

Thanks Ann. We’ve now gone down to Level 2 and we’ve had quite a few days, including 3 in a row, of zero new cases. Feels such a relief after the much stricter regime previously!

The people of NZ and your PM have done such a wonderful job of keeping the virus’ impact to a minimum. Such a great example for the rest of the world.

On Monday we’ll find out if we can go down to Level 2, although it’s been signalled that it would be a phased approach – sensible I guess given what’s at stake.

Good for NZ, a model of sensibility.
I cannot see the phrase in your title, without thinking of “shoofly pie” a specialty of Pennsylvania. it’s a molasses and butter crumb pie, which is not to everyone’s taste, but often that’s because they have only had commercial versions of it, which are almost always disappointing. One of my grandmothers made a delicious version, a bit like a crumb cake.
Well congratulations on the excellent progress getting this epidemic under control.

I’m totally fascinated by the “shoofly pie” and read what you had to say with rapt attention. I already adore pumpkin pie which I’ve made a few times and has always been a taste sensation. I bet your grandmother’s pie was YUM!

That’s good news. Zero is a happy number. Add it to itself or multiply it by itself and it keeps on being itself.
The aster picture could’ve been taken in Texas.

Interesting thought there Steve 🙂 And when you add it to something else, that something else keeps being itself too … sweet!

That reminds me that kids in school used to remind themselves of the spelling by saying A Red Indian Thought He Might Eat Toffee In Class, an interesting mnemonic for NZ children!

This is the first time I’ve heard that mnemonic. I’m glad you mentioned it.

I think it was “church” rather than “class” but I got the rest right! Robert Parker has just been telling me about “shoofly pie” in the comments on this same post and I’m so intrigued – have you eaten homemade shoofly pie? He said it’s a specialty of Pennsylvania. I’m totally *fascinated* by this shoofly pie!!! 🙂

I’ve been trying to remember whether I’ve ever had shoofly pie. I’m not sure. Now I’ll set myself the goal of sampling some. I do like molasses and butter.

Thank you! I see Canberra has a “new cases” graph with a curve that looks very similar to our own, and that you’re essentially covid-free there. That’s great to see!

We have a new case, Liz, but it looks promising.
