Train Themed Tiles

This lovely railway-themed tile art adorns the floor of Dunedin Railway Station, New Zealand. I took these photos while waiting to board the Taieri Gorge rail trip on 29 Dec 2019. Also, some nice stained glass windows on the top gallery level in the same space. These railway-themed tile pictures border the outer edge of... Continue Reading →

Christmas Day

We found this lovely nativity scene Christmas Day 2019 when we made a visit to St Patrick's Basilica in South Dunedin, New Zealand (Catholic). Beautiful church both inside and out. Redeveloped in the 2000s, officially re-opened 19 June 2016. Click on ANY photo below to enlarge. Text and photos by Liz; Exploring Colour (2020)

Taieri Gorge Railway

Today is a day we've looked forward to for weeks because we'd booked to do the Taieri Gorge Railway trip to Middlemarch (and return), leaving from Dunedin Railway Station. We boarded the train at 9.30am and got back soon after 4.00pm. FYI:  Wingatui is right by Mosgiel on the outskirts of Dunedin. Construction of this... Continue Reading →

Silent Light

There's something in the experience of stillness, simplicity and silence that's a blessed balm in the busyness of business as usual. Contemplate for a moment the silence and beauty of this simple space. The play of light and shadow on the textured floor.

Looking through a high office window the lady got quite animated - she'd spotted a plump pig with a ladybird bottom on the... Continue Reading →

Baark of the Town

We wanted a leg-stretch and wandered up a street leading out of the town centre of Oamaru. Being uphill it also gave us a vantage point from which to take a few photos. This striking shop stopped us in our tracks and after taking photos we returned to town. Baarkers Dog Grooming, 36 Tees Street,... Continue Reading →

Switzers Church

Switzers is the location of the old gold town that preceded Waikaia and its about 3km from the Waikaia village. You turn off onto a gravel driveway that goes up a hill, and around the bend this lovely little church is revealed. Switzers dates back to the gold mining days of the 1860s. Photos taken...
