Puffy and Pink

Pretty spring blossom borne on street trees a block away from where we live, photos taken during a pleasant morning walk on 25 October. The trees were laden and it was difficult to know how to compose the pictures, thankfully most pics turned out ok. Tapanui, West Otago, New Zealand.

Cottage Lilacs

A sweet old cottage with lovely lilacs at the gates, not far up the street from us. Delighted when I recently found the lilacs flowering outside! My primary purpose in taking a walk yesterday morning was to get photos before the lilac flowers fade. I understand the cottage dates back to the 1880s. The front... Continue Reading →

Profusion of Pink

We took a drive in the late afternoon through some back country farmland, and in the Park Hill area we came across these fluffy cherry blossom flowers. I thought cherry blossom were pretty much past it now but these were still a profusion of pink. It was in the outer, wilder, part of a farmhouse... Continue Reading →

Fanciful

My fanciful mind imagined this as an arched window from a ruined medieval abbey. It's just a bent-over tree in the bush at Black Gully Reserve, Tapanui, West Otago. Photo taken during a short bush walk yesterday afternoon. New Zealand.

Cause to Pause

We did a little walk in the local bush at Black Gully Reserve, late this afternoon. Here's two things that made me stop. The first photo was taken at the end of the walkable part of the track. The track should go further but just peters out. Even the track marker has fallen down -... Continue Reading →

White Flowerfall

Waterfalls..why not flowerfalls? I spotted this lovely white dogwood (Cornus sp.) down a side-street in Roxburgh on Saturday. After a refreshment stop we found the tree and I tried to capture something of its magic. The white dogwoods are pure white, noticeably standing out from other white blossom. Roxburgh, Central Otago. New Zealand. Click on... Continue Reading →

Lovely Lilac

Driving through East Roxburgh yesterday I spotted lots of lovely lilac flowers.. a whole hedge! so I asked Nigel to turn around. We were both glad we went back, it was a lovely spot and nice standing near to the flowery hedge. Brightest time of day though, difficult to get nice shots. Central Otago, New... Continue Reading →

Lilac and Love

I found this gorgeous lilac bloom at the entry to a country cemetery today and felt love lingering at one of the memorials. This open and spacious cemetery is located at the very small settlement of Millers Flat, near Roxburgh, Central Otago. Some of the older graves date back to the late-1800s/early-1900s, and from what... Continue Reading →

Shower of Gold

Beautiful golden native kōwhai flowers outside the RSA today. Appears to be a deciduous form, that's what caught my eye first about a week ago - all these flowers and no leaves! We've had a few wintry days but it's still looking gorgeous. Tapanui, West Otago, New Zealand. Click on any photo to enlarge. Blossom... Continue Reading →

Snowball Blossom

Yesterday out for a local walk I was stopped by a beautiful sweet scent. I looked up to see these flowers above me! Street frontage of property with an old church. After an online search I'm fairly sure it's Sweet Viburnum or Viburnum odoratissimum ~Tapanui, West Otago, New Zealand. Click on either photo to enlarge.... Continue Reading →

Pale Yellow

On Saturday we had an afternoon walk around town and I found plenty of spring colour to photograph. Here's some pale yellow subjects, an appetizer for a forthcoming 'Yellow' post. Local walk in Tapanui, West Otago, New Zealand on 02 October 2021. Click on any photo to enlarge. Q. Tiny flowers breaking out, the starry... Continue Reading →
