Sweeping Spiral

Eye-catching pedestrian/cycleway bridge in the suburb of Green Island, Dunedin, New Zealand. This is the main street end of the bridge; it has a spiral ramp connecting street and bridge. The bridge spans a stream and motorway, crossing over to an extensive residential area. We've long wanted to stop and have a closer look and... Continue Reading →

Bracken Hall

Great cafe and gift shop at Mossburn (which is on the route to Fiordland). When Nigel was over that way for work on 24 November I asked him to check if this place is still open. Still very much open (yay!) and he was able to get refreshments there. Southland, New Zealand. Toad of Bracken... Continue Reading →

White Lavender and Roses

Nigel stayed overnight in Wanaka recently and took these photos of a small garden outside his hotel .. the white lavender being of particular interest. The lavender flowers are big, complementing the white roses beautifully. Wanaka is an alpine town on the edge of Lake Wanaka and near to skifields and the stunning Mount Aspiring... Kaitangata

Small rural town (population ~800) 12km from Balclutha. The mighty Clutha River flows through Balclutha, then winds its way past Kaitangata ('Kai'). We took a drive out there yesterday, 18 October 2020. Clutha District, New Zealand. Click on any photo to enlarge Hut and jetty by the Clutha River, at Kai. Where we'd stopped, I... Tapanui Community

I took these photos 30 March 2020 when New Zealand was in early Level 4 lockdown for Covid, we were one month into the autumn season. Nigel and I had taken a Monday exercise walk, finding our way to the town rugby fields and then wandering back via the golf course. Tapanui, West Otago, New... Continue Reading →

Oh The Glow!

Golden foliage trees make a colourful splash in the landscape during winter when there's not much else to brighten the scene. These photos were taken by Nigel about a month ago when we went for a local walk. It was when daffodils were in bud but hardly any had opened. Tapanui, West Otago, New Zealand.... Continue Reading →

Roxburgh in the Teviot Valley

Now we live in Tapanui it's not far to drive to Roxburgh in Central Otago, an inland rural town we're fond of (wouldn't mind living there). It's right by the Clutha River and the town is surrounded by farms and orchards. There's also a hydro dam at East Roxburgh (its 60th anniversary was in 2016).... Continue Reading →

Kelso Stories

My final Kelso post is the stories and photos displayed on the information signs beside the flood monument. The first photo is just a header, the others I've saved larger than usual - click on them till you have the full enlargement (usually 2x clicks). Kelso, West Otago, New Zealand - a town abandoned due... Continue Reading →
