Splendid Scooter

Approaching Gore Public Gardens yesterday on my way home I found this scooter parked near the gardens. I was captivated by its decorations, a scooter all decked out for Christmas. What a delight! Bow, baubles, tinsel and Christmas Tree. Gore, Southland, New Zealand. Taken by Liz 20 Dec 2018 MERRY CHRISTMAS AND BEST WISHES FOR... Continue Reading →

Stripes and Squiggles

We ordered the Citrus and White Chocolate cheesecake on Saturday night at Waxy's Irish Pub in Invercargill and were wowed with its looks when it was duly presented at our table. I only JUST remembered to take a photo! It was nice but I thought it tasted a little bland compared to what I'd expected.... Continue Reading →

Firmly Anchored

In the legend of Maui and the giant fish, young Maui goes fishing with his older brothers in their waka (canoe) and when he drops his magic fishhook he fishes up a great fish that becomes the North Island of New Zealand. This leopard however hails from the UK, not from New Zealand. Meet the Leopard Moth (Zeuzera pyrina) photographed by Pete Hillman. The... Continue Reading →

Occasionally I find them somewhere, always a delightful and surprising encounter! Honesty is also sometimes called money plant, silver dollar, dollar plant and moonwort. Its Latin... Actually, I've used five images -... Continue Reading →

Sweat Bee and Purple Milkwort

This post is a follow-on from my recent Perfect Match post. I was greatly taken with the bright, shiny green and yellow colouring of this small bee and how perfectly it complements the colours in the flower. The photos below show a Sweat Bee (Halictid bee, Augochlorini tribe) exploring the flowers of Purple Milkwort (Polygala... Continue Reading →
