Tuapeka Trees in Spring

Driving back from Lawrence via Tuapeka on Saturday we came across these lovely trees in the rural landscape. Nigel had stopped to take a photo of some willows so I asked him to take photos of these trees too - some kind of poplar trees. Taken 21 September. Clutha District, South Otago, New Zealand Text... Daffodils in a field, Tuapeka

This lovely group of daffodils was blooming in a field at Tuapeka Mouth yesterday. We passed them as we drove down Ferry Road to look at the historic Tuapeka Mouth Ferry (The Punt). Guess there was a cottage here some time in the past. I've posted our similar photos just as a handy reference for... Continue Reading →

At Home in the Country

At home in the country; at the end of a rural road y'day we found a guitar-on-wheels in a field. The New Zealand Gold Guitar Awards are held annually in Gore. Perhaps this gets trundled out.

Goat Coats

Cashmere fibre for cashmere clothing. A field day was held on-farm at Clinton on Saturday 24 August and we decided to go. We'd been in Roxburgh overnight so drove home and only had 15mins before it was time to drive to Clinton. The goats are an integral part of a 400ha beef and sheep farm.... Continue Reading →

Beauty from The Emerald Isle

Stunning photos from Ireland, taken by Damien who's recently returned from a visit to his homeland. "The fog over Connemara and the fjords lingers all year around I think which adds to the sensation of 40 weathers in one day (a little rain, a little sun, a little sleet and a little shade) which also... Umbrella Mountains from Moa Flat

These three photos were taken from Moa Flat, same location as the photos in my last post  Moa Flat in Winter. This time Nigel is facing west to the Umbrella Mountains. I asked him to take photos as the snow patterns on the slopes were lovely. Each photo shows the Umbrella Mountains, but further to... Continue Reading →

Moa Flat in Winter

We stopped here to get some snow photos as we went through Moa Flat yesterday, on our way to Central Otago.  Here we're high up, before descending to Ettrick and then heading through Roxburgh into Central. New Zealand. These first two photos taken by Nigel 07 Aug 2019. Click on either of these photos to... Continue Reading →

Directions

About Wind: a few years ago we were living in an isolated valley on the south coast of South Otago where westerly gales regularly roared down our valley. One particular winter night Nigel was away and I was home alone. I guess there'd been a barrage of wind all day but I don't recall it... Continue Reading →

Winter Warmth

Returning to Tapanui from Balclutha we encountered a pretty rural sunset scene as we drove through Conical Hill in the Pomahaka area. I asked Nigel to turn around because I'd spotted an irresistable view that included a stream and an old bailey bridge. We both hopped out in the drizzle to take photos and Nigel's... Waikaka Gold

On our way to Waikaka on Saturday we got a fairly close view of gold mining equipment parked in a paddock near the road. We've seen this from a distance months ago (perhaps part of a modern dredge). I got myself mired in much info while looking for a few facts to go with this... Continue Reading →
