Pomahaka River, Park Hill
Pomahaka River at Park Hill Domain off Switzers Road, West Otago. New Zealand. 09 April
Park Hill Domain
Yesterday afternoon we took a rural drive along Switzers Road which follows a ridge through farm country and affords wonderfully extensive views to hills and mountains. Eventually we arrived at Park Hill Domain where I've previously taken a few photos from the road but we'd never driven into the public domain by the river. I... Continue Reading →
Round The Bend
A drive through rural back roads in Southland, Waikaka area. 29 December. New Zealand.
Old Timer
We went out for a country drive this morning, exploring some roads we hadn't travelled before. When we were well through our trip we came across this old building that appears to have been a farmhouse. Weatherboard house with corrugated iron roof. The front lower level has had its weatherboards removed and looks like it's... Continue Reading →
Alpha Street
Yesterday I walked from the highway to Old Cromwell. Along the way I found this public reserve, early afternoon in hot weather. The reserve is alongside Alpha Street and extends down to Lake Dunstan. I rested a while here and looked at a few things. Central Otago, New Zealand. 1) a glance behind me -... Continue Reading →
Daffodils, Blue Bridge
Daffodils at Weatherstons near Lawrence, Clutha District. Blue bridge; this is a beautiful single-lane bridge spanning the Clutha River (Mata-Au) at Millers Flat, Central Otago. All photos taken 02 October. New Zealand.
High Hopping Rates
These freshwater photos are from the historic daffodil property at Weatherstons near Lawrence, the site of the Black Horse Brewery that was in operation from 1866 until 1923 under various owners. Apparently the beer produced was of excellent quality and the water was an important factor - there's a photo with info about the water... Continue Reading →
Suspension Bridge (1913)
Late trip today to Millers Flat, Central Otago in order to walk a short track to Horseshoe Bend Bridge, a suspension bridge across the Clutha/Mata-Au River, opened in 1913. I did a photo-post about the bridge with daylight shots at the end of 2019; the post has many photos as well as information about the... Continue Reading →
Pink & White Divide
We happened upon this blossom bonanza yesterday south of Roxburgh (out in the countryside, further south than the orchard in yesterday's post). The beautiful blossom, in pink and white, covered the hillside between the road and the mighty Clutha River / Mata-Au. Such an awesome pleasure to see all this before the blossom disappears. Central... Continue Reading →
Power
Yesterday we drove to Lake Roxburgh Village, crossed the Clutha River/Matau-Au via Roxburgh hydro dam, and walked up Commissioners Track to the Spillway viewing area (3rd pic). The noise of the water blasting down to the river below was loud and constant! Central Otago, New Zealand. The first time we've walked this track and we... Continue Reading →
Oamaru, Views
Oamaru's a town on the east coast of the South Island with a very distinct character, proudly on display in the commercial whitestone buildings of the old 'Victorian Precinct' CBD area, originating from the 1860s to 1880s and mainly comprised of large old grain and seed warehouses along with ludicrously grandiose bank buildings with imposing...
