It was great fun searching for tulip fields this morning. We drove over to the Edendale area again, Menzies Ferry and Seaward Downs. Here are four photos from four different tulip sites, all photos taken by Nigel and edited by me. Some plantings are huge and the colours stand out for miles. Others are more... Continue Reading →
They're such a sight.. these brazen, beautiful tulips that parade through the countryside at Edendale, Southland, New Zealand. We admire their stunning colours disrupting the otherwise uniformly-green Southland pastoral landscape. Spectacular colour in a region where dull earthy tones are the unwritten 'dress code' for attending an on-farm event! 🙂 From a 2021 ODT article... Continue Reading →
Another huge striped tulip field - I'd walked along my side of the fence to the far end, looking at the colours and taking photos with the aim of reaching this bright colour stripe that I could see at the end. Unbelievable colour but it's for real, and alongside were some very pretty pink-and-white tulips.... Continue Reading →
Glorious colours! Multi-striped field of tulips, Edendale. [This field was on the opposite side of the gravel country road from where I took the first two photos of the pink tulip field] ~Mon 17 Oct. Southland, New Zealand.
This lovely window detail caught my attention when we stopped to take a look at the Lovells Flat church, the gorgeous 1902 Presbyterian church that we managed to find our way to, on Sunday 16 October. Clutha District, New Zealand.
We've lived down south for years now and I never knew about a gorgeous rural church among farm fields at Lovells Flat! I spotted the steeple today while we were driving, and by returning to a gravel side road we'd just passed, we were able to make it to the church. This is a Presbyterian... Continue Reading →
As we were leaving Bannerman Park on Sunday afternoon I spotted these odd-looking bunches of pine needles and thought I'd try taking pics looking up at them from below. This is a large pine tree so it has lots of these bunched needles! Gore, Southland. 18 Sept. New Zealand. By the way, I've previously posted... Continue Reading →
It's Sunday as I write this and I thought I'd post these shots of 'The Vicarage' that we took in Milton on our way home in autumn, 25 March 2022. There's a church next door, and a number of big trees are present on the two properties. Clutha District, New Zealand. Nigel took the 2nd... Continue Reading →
"Religious observances—I've often thought that's a wonderful word, observance. What's religious about it is that you're observant, you're keeping your ears, eyes and heart open for the presence of God." --Frederick Buechner The quote is from a 2002 article I read very recently in which the late Frederick Buechner was interviewed by Richard A. Kauffman... Continue Reading →
One feature of Central Otago is a lot of rock in the landscape. I took a couple of rock photos when we walked the Commissioners Track at East Roxburgh on 06 August. My first photo was taken at the end of the track, as I wandered about looking at what was there. It caught my... Continue Reading →
