Hard Line (Or Not)

If you describe someone's policy or attitude as hard-line, you mean that it is strict or extreme, and that they refuse to change it. --Collins English Dictionary. 'lines' photos taken by Nigel on 30 March 2020. Tapanui, West Otago, New Zealand. On that day we were getting some fresh air and exercise, wandering around on... Continue Reading →

The Meaning of Trees

My first Liebster Award nominee has got her response underway! Kay McKenzie Cooke from Dunedin, New Zealand has posted answers to my first two questions. It was great reading what she shared and I felt very honoured that Kay who was born and raised in Southland called me a Southlander - a rare privilege indeed.... Continue Reading →

Lil Library in Tapanui

Lilliput Library to be exact. Yesterday I needed to walk from home, right through the town of Tapanui, and then go further up the street and round the bend to get to the house that was my destination. And on the way I knew I'd pass the new Lilliput Library that I've spotted recently when... Continue Reading →

Leaving home to walk to our local cafe Top Nosh for a Valentine's Day brunch, Nigel was taken with all the dewy webs on the box hedge by our path - they were making a great show. Straight Ahead to Leithen

There weren't many road signs to confirm our route to Leithen and it had us guessing at times as we drove up the gravel lane through forest trees, the sealed road having ended when farmland had transitioned to woodland. Eventually we came to the lovely Leithen picnic area that I've been posting photos of recently.... Continue Reading →

Starting Over

Yesterday while still in Dunedin we chose a new camera that I'll be able to start learning how to use. So exciting! To be honest I hate learning anything new but I'd got really frustrated with the lack of detail and poor colour rendition in my basic cellphone camera. This afternoon back home I ventured... Clyde Spring Gardens

We were in Clyde on Nov 27, 2019 and had a walk around some of the residential area, enjoying the home gardens. Roses, peonies and lavender were much in evidence. Although we've grown green-flowered lavender ourselves in the past I think the lavender below is only green because the flower buds are immature. Clyde, Central... Continue Reading →

Lighting The Way

When we visited Maple Glen Garden on Nov 17, these plants added a glow to the garden. Laburnum and variegated irises putting on a show. Along with colourful azaleas and rhododendrons, plants were filling the garden with light and colour. Maple Glen Garden, Glenham, Southland, New Zealand. Photos by Liz and Nigel. Laburnum Photos 1... Tautuku Estuary

Another stop in The Catlins with our friends.. the Tautuku Estuary boardwalk is always good for a visit. You can walk far out into the wetland on the boardwalk with great views over the endemic oioi or Apodasmia similis (or Jointed Wire Rush). Its a short drive down the gravel road to the carpark, then... Continue Reading →
