Kiwi Supernova

Most people know of "kiwifruit" as we call them in New Zealand. You might call them "kiwis". During my young childhood they were called "Chinese gooseberries". I've just found that the name change occurred on 15 June 1959 (it evidently took a while to catch on with the general population as I was born a... Continue Reading →

I see… White

It's a long time since I've put together a colour post - my admiration for recent white posts by others has motivated me to do another. First up is Ted Jennings from South Carolina, USA because it was his fabulous photo of a Great Egret arriving back at its nest that wow-ed me and made... Continue Reading →

Dancing With The Stars

I dance with these guys, but not literally of course...I "follow" their blogs, I love their photography and from time-to-time I profile their work on my blog. So in this rather fanciful piece of writing I dance with them, its a joy! This morning I found they'd both posted exceptionally fine photos and I felt... Continue Reading →

Leopards are Soft and Furry

Soft white fur and black spots, at least that's what I thought at first glance... but look closely at the spots - they're a glittering metallic blue! They remind me of polished paua shell (abalone). This leopard however hails from the UK, not from New Zealand. Meet the Leopard Moth (Zeuzera pyrina) photographed by Pete Hillman. The... Continue Reading →

All Aboard!

Moving on from the He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not oil painting I posted recently, I have two other dandelion-related posts to share with you. The first is a photo that was posted by Pepix on 18 May. Very much a moment-in-time shot! Thanks Pepix for permission to share. ** Click on photo to... Continue Reading →

Five Eyes: Pete Hillman

Five Eyes is a series I began last year and this is the first 2018 post. With Pete Hillman's permission I've selected five photos from his blog, where eyes are a prominent feature in the photos. NB:  If you visit the original blog-posts (links provided), in most cases you can view more photos of the... Continue Reading →

Five Eyes: Mark Berkery (non-spiders!)

My last Five Eyes post featured five fascinating spider images taken by Mark Berkery from Queensland, Australia. While searching his blog I'd picked up a number of non-spider images too, and I have Mark's permission to also share these. In addition, the very last (6th) image in this post is a "bonus" image. I found... Continue Reading →

Five Eyes: Mark Berkery (Spiders)

Fortunately I'd already asked Mark Berkery if I could choose five of his photos for another Five Eyes post because this morning my laptop bombed and my photos that I had ready for daily posts are irretrievable. No more posts about Dot's castle and her gardens (for now anyway). I started searching Mark's blog -... Continue Reading →
