Christmas In The Country

On our drive back home from Dunedin via the south coast on Sunday we found some cheerful Christmas farm fun with Santa featuring in two different displays. Both were unexpected delights that we just happened upon by chance. Hooray for the farmers! South Otago, New Zealand. Photos taken by Nigel 08 Dec 2019. Rural area... Continue Reading →

Water Blasting

Relics from the goldmining days are commonly on display in Otago and I never get tired of seeing them. The Otago Gold Rush began near Lawrence when Gabriel Read discovered gold at what came to be called Gabriel's Gully, in May 1861. In Lawrence on Saturday I found a fine sluice gun or monitor on... Waikaka Gold

On our way to Waikaka on Saturday we got a fairly close view of gold mining equipment parked in a paddock near the road. We've seen this from a distance months ago (perhaps part of a modern dredge). I got myself mired in much info while looking for a few facts to go with this... Continue Reading →

Shifting Samson

The West Otago Vintage Museum is just up the road from us and there's some interesting goings-on at times. Tapanui, West Otago,... Continue Reading →

Asleep At The Wheel

Just up the road from us is the West Otago Vintage Museum. Looking through the glass, I had a chuckle at this comatose character perched on the tractor seat. Tapanui, New Zealand

Along For The Ride

Man's best friend was along for the ride on this steam engine that I was watching go by at the Southland Steam Engine Club rally at Brydone near Gore, 09 Feb 2019. I couldn't see the dog until the engine had passed me, then I caught sight of it on the back. After the engine... Continue Reading →
