Ominous

First three photos taken in Earnscleugh as we were en route to Cromwell, 29 October. Through Cromwell Gorge we crawled along as rain bucketed down.. we hurriedly unpacked at our motel. Later when quieter I took the last photo, from outside our motel unit. Central Otago, New Zealand. Beautiful lilac hedge and stone wall partnership.Lovely... Continue Reading →

Lilac Spring

Lilac Spring in Roxburgh 22 October, evening. The first three photos are from a gorgeous lilac hedge, I was enveloped in the sweet fragrance while taking the pics. The iris I found in a completely different garden (the one where I took the paeony pics). Central Otago, New Zealand.

Cottage Lilacs

A sweet old cottage with lovely lilacs at the gates, not far up the street from us. Delighted when I recently found the lilacs flowering outside! My primary purpose in taking a walk yesterday morning was to get photos before the lilac flowers fade. I understand the cottage dates back to the 1880s. The front... Continue Reading →

Lilac and Love

I found this gorgeous lilac bloom at the entry to a country cemetery today and felt love lingering at one of the memorials. This open and spacious cemetery is located at the very small settlement of Millers Flat, near Roxburgh, Central Otago. Some of the older graves date back to the late-1800s/early-1900s, and from what... Continue Reading →

One of those nice old-fashioned human sized ones 🙂 Behind the tractor you can see lavender bushes. Turns out there's a great story here about the development of a Lavender Farm... Continue Reading →

COLOUR ON CURT CORNERS, PART 5; COLOURED SHOWERS

I couldn’t have had a better start to my day than seeing these beautiful photos of wisteria cascading down a building in Paris and reading the wonderful poem alongside. What a vision in mauve! Just had to re-blog! Photos and poetry by Damien B. Donnelly.

23 May ’22: links below outdated but Damien’s poem is still online.

IMG_8583Lilac showers
Parisian walls
to lift the day
from tones of grey,

colours whisper
to hungry minds
from lithesome leaves
to planting seeds,

branches bound
like blood to body,
to walls so willing
like veins now filling,

lilac leans
with leaves of green,
gently swaying,
thoughts are weighing,

nature bends
to hear my call
and pens take flight
on lines at night.
