White Lavender and Roses

Nigel stayed overnight in Wanaka recently and took these photos of a small garden outside his hotel .. the white lavender being of particular interest. The lavender flowers are big, complementing the white roses beautifully. Wanaka is an alpine town on the edge of Lake Wanaka and near to skifields and the stunning Mount Aspiring... Tanks a lot

Explored Ettrick yesterday and found an assortment of tanks at the end of a rural lane. I admired the round concrete one and Nigel took a pic. Also feeling genuinely grateful for the many blessings I enjoy. And thank you for stopping by 🙂 Ettrick (southern end of Central Otago). New Zealand. Click on the... Continue Reading →

Beach, Boats, Bird

I took these photos when we visited Pilots Beach at Taiaroa Head, at the end of Otago Peninsula. Near Dunedin, New Zealand. Taken 10 / 10 / 2020. We'd popped down to the beach after visiting the Albatross Centre and Cafe. The first boat is probably one that does dredging in the harbour. The second... Continue Reading →

Bunch of Deadbeats

After taking our leave from the beautiful angel at Waipahi Cemetery we went for a long country drive and eventually ended up in Balclutha. Our favourite pizza outlet was shut so we went to Casafuego Eatery and Bar, a colourful establishment with a very friendly skeleton crew 🙂 Balclutha, Clutha District, New Zealand. 22 Nov... Bouquet of Sharpened Pencils

Ok, so I stole my title from a line in the movie You've Got Mail but these 'Woodland Pencils' are seriously wonderful! I found them displayed for sale in a cafe we visited today, TurQuoise CaFe right by the main road in the Ettrick orchard area, Central Otago. If you're going that way don't miss... Tea for me is serious business ... Nigel was chief-of-the-teapot but he had camera... Continue Reading →

Bright Sunshiny Day

Cold wind today and dull/overcast, then a sudden change sometime around midday. Still a cold wind but the sky completely changed to very bright blue and sunshine. My photos came out way over-exposed - I've done the best I can to tone them down! Dunedin Botanic Garden, New Zealand. Click on any photo to enlarge.... Continue Reading →

Willowy Gymnasts

Trimmed trees ... these willows have been drastically cut back. And bent by the prevailing winds. In addition, Nigel gave me photos he'd taken - of me taking the photos! Hamilton Park, Gore, Southland. New Zealand. Click on any photo to enlarge. These two reminded me of a couple of gymnasts! There were three all... Continue Reading →

Precious Peony

Perfect spring day today in Dunedin Botanic Gardens, New Zealand. It was like summer! I took lots of photos, here's a few to kick off with. Starting with giant peony flowers that I found yesterday. Took Nigel to see them this morning (which is when I took the photos). The first pink poppy flower about... Continue Reading →

Little Lemon Rose

Found this gorgeous early rose loaded with cute little lemon-coloured blooms in the Jessie Calder Garden (old roses), Queens Park, Invercargill on 17 October 2020. This was the only rose making an impact, others had barely started. Southland, New Zealand. Click on any photo to enlarge Text and photos by Liz; Exploring Colour (2020)
