A Merry Christmas Bush Walk

Spur-of-the-moment this morning: I suggested to Nigel that we take a break and explore a bush track that's only a short drive from home. We'd been to the public domain before but had never explored the track. Black Gully, Blue Mountains, West Otago, New Zealand. We just did a small part of the track, it's... Continue Reading →

Christmas In The Park

Not long after midday we popped into Gore Gardens to look at flowers and found it's the day for the Santa Parade which finished at the gardens so it was unexpectedly busy! We found some lovely flowers and I also enjoyed the happy hubbub of many families coming together to enjoy Christmas fun with the... Continue Reading →

Summer Fruit

Cherries, apricots and tomatoes bought today from the Big Cherry orchard in Roxburgh. The cherries are way more delicious than I expected for this early in the season, a variety called 'samba'. Central Otago, New Zealand. Text and photos by Liz; Exploring Colour (2020)

Wedding Anniversary

Yesterday was our wedding anniversary and we spent it in Dunedin, arriving in the early afternoon. Here's a few pics from the Dunedin Botanic Garden. The roses are now in flower .. and they're blooming beautiful! Nigel spotted a white rose called 'Wedding Day' and I've included a photo below. Dunedin, New Zealand. 'Wedding Day'... Gill’s Cnr Shelter

Beautiful bus shelter on the Otago Peninsula (end of the peninsula, on the route to Taiaroa Head where the Royal Albatross Centre is located). We visited the Centre on October 10, 2020 and this shelter caught my eye, featuring a Northern Royal Albatross on the front and one end, the other end has a yellow-eyed... Continue Reading →

Bracken Hall

Great cafe and gift shop at Mossburn (which is on the route to Fiordland). When Nigel was over that way for work on 24 November I asked him to check if this place is still open. Still very much open (yay!) and he was able to get refreshments there. Southland, New Zealand. Toad of Bracken... Continue Reading →

White Lavender and Roses

Nigel stayed overnight in Wanaka recently and took these photos of a small garden outside his hotel .. the white lavender being of particular interest. The lavender flowers are big, complementing the white roses beautifully. Wanaka is an alpine town on the edge of Lake Wanaka and near to skifields and the stunning Mount Aspiring... Tanks a lot

Explored Ettrick yesterday and found an assortment of tanks at the end of a rural lane. I admired the round concrete one and Nigel took a pic. Also feeling genuinely grateful for the many blessings I enjoy. And thank you for stopping by 🙂 Ettrick (southern end of Central Otago). New Zealand. Click on the... Continue Reading →

Beach, Boats, Bird

I took these photos when we visited Pilots Beach at Taiaroa Head, at the end of Otago Peninsula. Near Dunedin, New Zealand. Taken 10 / 10 / 2020. We'd popped down to the beach after visiting the Albatross Centre and Cafe. The first boat is probably one that does dredging in the harbour. The second... Continue Reading →

Bunch of Deadbeats

After taking our leave from the beautiful angel at Waipahi Cemetery we went for a long country drive and eventually ended up in Balclutha. Our favourite pizza outlet was shut so we went to Casafuego Eatery and Bar, a colourful establishment with a very friendly skeleton crew 🙂 Balclutha, Clutha District, New Zealand. 22 Nov... Bouquet of Sharpened Pencils

Ok, so I stole my title from a line in the movie You've Got Mail but these 'Woodland Pencils' are seriously wonderful! I found them displayed for sale in a cafe we visited today, TurQuoise CaFe right by the main road in the Ettrick orchard area, Central Otago. If you're going that way don't miss... Time For Tea

In Dunedin this morning we exited the public library to find rain had set in so we quickly made our way to Nova Cafe in the Octagon. This is a great place to get a decent pot of tea. New Zealand. Tea for me is serious business ... Nigel was chief-of-the-teapot but he had camera... Continue Reading →
