31 Years

Wedding anniversary today! So we did a long drive into Central Otago ~ but I took this photo 24 November. Deep red rosebud ready to open, red mature rose blurred behind the bud, scattered soft-focus white roses in background (they're tinged palest pink in the centre). Alexandra public gardens, Central Otago, New Zealand.

Smiley Face Pansies

Smiley-face design in a garden bed of pansies. Yellow pansy faces with blue pansy eyes and smiles! This is a very large round garden bed that serves like a pedestrian round-about or traffic circle. The pansies inhabit a wide outer edge, immediately outside of a neatly trimmed low box hedge. 29 Oct. Alexandra public garden,... Continue Reading →

Birthday Fun

Birthday fun yesterday.. a trek through thyme-strewn Bannockburn sluicings to Stewart Town where the old stone house also boasts an old orchard +lilac bush! The first pic also has California poppies. And earlier, I'd enjoyed a whirl on this twirly thing in a Cromwell playground. Central Otago, New Zealand.

Sunshine

You Are My Sunshine! ~photo taken yesterday at Turquoise Cafe, Ettrick (orchard area between Millers Flat and Roxburgh); the cafe's in what used to be an orchard packing shed. Lovely cafe! Central Otago, New Zealand.

Robes of Purest White

As mentioned in Plum Pigeon, we have a native-pigeon-couple spending courting time in our blossoming plum tree. Late on 11th September I noted their presence in the tree and managed to get out there with my cellphone camera. Today while considering this post I decided to search for poems about the New Zealand Pigeon and... Continue Reading →

Plum Pigeon

After our chilly start to spring (cold wind, rain, sleet and snow) September 8th was much better, a gloriously fine day and I lost no time getting a load of washing 'done and hung'. End-of-day I trudged out to the line to get the washing, enjoying the melodious sounds of tūī song as I filled... Continue Reading →

A Fine Gorse Bush

We walked Commissioners Track yesterday, at East Roxburgh near the hydro dam. Lovely gorse flowers, shame it's a very bad pest plant here in NZ! I have to admit though, the bright yellow flowers sure brighten up a winters day. And I took a pic of Nigel on a lower part of the track as... Continue Reading →

Wonderland ~03

The Pan statue visible in some of Nigel's photos in my posts has up to now been at a distance but these final Wonderland photos show Pan close-up. The whole sculpture or statue is a wonderful work that you can walk all around and admire the various creatures and figures depicted - they lean toward... Continue Reading →

Wonderland ~01

When we arrived in Oamaru and wandered through the public gardens I spotted a moon gate off to the side and was drawn to it. "This part of the gardens known as Wonderland was officially opened by Sir Leonard Wright on October 31st 1959" ~inscription at the top of the gate. I was pretty taken... Continue Reading →

Five Years | Exploring Colour

Five years ago today, on 23 May, I started my blog with a brief and plain post, then launched out into the WP blogger-sphere to see what it's all about. I didn't have a clue! In this first session I happened to meet an Irish poet then working as pattern-maker in Paris, Damien B. Donnelly.... Continue Reading →
