Colours and Decor

The Frost Pot in Roxburgh, Central Otago, New Zealand. As per my last post, this shop has only been open for seven weeks and was a really nice surprise for us when we visited on Friday 12 April 2019 (NZ autumn). Nigel was a keen photographer this day and did a great job! All photos... Continue Reading →

Pub at the Port

In yesterday's post I said we'd been out for dinner in Port Chalmers during our recent overnighter in Dunedin. We didn't take any photos but I took some during a visit to the same establishment in January - I'll share those with you instead. Its a really nice pub, welcoming and friendly, comfortable, and with... Continue Reading →

Oamaru Cafes

Cafes in Oamaru are great and I don't think we've been to any that we haven't liked. I should particularly mention Steam which we've often been to but I never photographed. Last time we found it had changed ownership so I hope the wonderful food continues! This post features a couple of cafes that we... Continue Reading →

Tuatara Backpackers

Tuatara Backpackers is in Invercargill, near the library. Being nice and handy we pop in from time to time. We went in for a pizza on 01 February 2019 and before we left I took some photos of the interesting decor. I liked the sheen on the skirt (which is shown best in the last... Continue Reading →

Flying in Dunedin NZ

In the Dunedin public library I noticed these birds on a corner of the blue carpet. Dunedin is a harbourside city so I assume they’re seabirds.. what a nice acknowledgement of the local environment!

Bath House Cafe, Queenstown

When we were in Queenstown on Saturday 27 October we re-visited a cafe that we haven't been to for many years and it was so wonderful we returned again before leaving town. It was bright and comfortable, the food and coffees were delicious and it feels very special being right on the shore by Lake... Continue Reading →

Art Deco Beauties in Bluff (3)

Immediately past the bright pink art deco building we came across The Lighthouse Gallery with which I was enchanted! It looked wonderful from the outside and later we went inside and relaxed in the cafe where the manager (Bridget) made us very welcome. Its only dawned on me as I write this that the bright... A Good Yarn

This'll knock ya socks off! There's a very talented lady in Dunedin who hand dyes wool in various colours to resemble the plumage of New Zealand native birds. Her name is Loris Ives and I met her about a year ago when I wandered into The Potters' Co-operative shop at 14 Stuart Street on a... Continue Reading →

Mossburn Muffins Mmm!

Chocolate and caramel muffins, hot chocolate and mochaccino. Delicious afternoon tea, enjoyed at Bracken Hall cafe and gift shop. Mossburn is a tiny village way out in the Southland rural countryside. Its on the tourist route to Fiordland which probably explains why this tiny town has two cafes and a diner! I recommend Bracken Hall... Continue Reading →

Country Cafe Coasters

Rare sunshine arrived today! This afternoon we took a delightful sunny winter drive far out into the countryside, eventually arriving in the small village of Mossburn for afternoon tea. We laughed at the bottle-top cup coasters sitting on the table...
