Foggy start to our 'summer' day here in the south of New Zealand. Opened the front door to find the next-door sheep staring straight at me and chewing its cud. Tapanui, West Otago, New Zealand.
Misty Rock
Love how the low cloud softened the look of this big rock and I asked Nigel to take a photo. This was close by the side of the road as we drove from Moonlight to Middlemarch. Waitaki/Dunedin. New Zealand. Sat 29 May 2021. Click on either photo to enlarge. These large grass clumps will be... Continue Reading →
Silent White
This morning we left home quite early and drove through remote farmland. The sky was beautiful and bright with stars. Then ahead of us we could see a low-lying, long black cloud - pitch black. We both commented on it and wondered what it was. Further along the road we entered extremely dense fog forcing... Continue Reading →
Roses at Crookston
This is another building, standing beside the derelict garage at Crookston where Nigel took the photos of yellow sedum that were posted in Stop For Sedum. Front left and right of a big shed. Photos taken by Liz, 18 Jan 2020. Crookston, West Otago, New Zealand. I took this photo primarily for the attractive misty... Continue Reading →
Worth Getting Up For
"So, early on a January morning in Winnipeg, when I looked out the window to see fog instead of a snowstorm, I was beyond myself. I almost forgot to exchange my bedroom slippers for boots before I was out the door. And then, to add to my pleasure, when I got outside it was warm... Continue Reading →
Rock Solid
Nearly missed taking a photo of this big boulder. I'd just got comfy in the car after being out in the cold, looked out the window, and realized I'd forgotten to photo this rock when I was outside. So back outside I went ... Butchers Gully, Butchers Dam, Lye Bow Road, Alexandra; Central Otago, New... Continue Reading →
Rock Face (do you see the face?) - Looks like an aristocratic man's face to me, in profile with nose toward the power pole. Lawyer's head? What do you see? Taken by Liz at Butchers Dam near Alexandra, Central Otago, New Zealand, Sat 02 June 2018.
Pretty Damn Cold!
Alexandra remained foggy and cold on Sat 02 June. We stopped to take photos at Butchers Dam where the scenery was splendid but we didn't want to hang around for too long as it was very cold. We were parked by Lye Bow Road, a gravel road which is just off the main highway. The... Continue Reading →
Speargrass Inn: Garden
Photos from the garden that surrounds Speargrass Inn at Fruitlands, Central Otago. We arrived at the Inn but they were Out (closed for the winter). This post continues Fruitless Fruitlands which included a rustic wagon. The beautiful pine tree below is near the wagon - you can partially see it in some photos. The pine... Continue Reading →
Fruitless Fruitlands
Speargrass Inn is a beautifully restored historic hotel now operating as a cafe with separate B&B accommodation. We'd hoped to enjoy the cafe on our way back home on Saturday. The district where Speargrass Inn is located is called Fruitlands and we found the cafe had closed for the winter hence my title 'Fruitless Fruitlands'.... Continue Reading →
Narnia found! At Lye Bow Road, Butchers Gully, Alexandra. Taken by Liz Sat 02 June 2018 in the early afternoon. Second day of winter here in New Zealand.
