LAPC#209 – Surreal

Tracy from Australia is guest hosting the Lens-Artists Photo Challenge this week and she's chosen the theme of Surreal. Given I'm a NZer and in that sense we're neighbours, in the spirit of solidarity I started checking for photos that might pass for surreal and found these that I'd forgotten from 22 Dec 2021. I'd... Peter Pan, Dunedin

Here's another statue for children in a public garden setting, the Peter Pan statue in Dunedin Botanic Garden, New Zealand. From the DBG website ... "Dedicated to ‘the Children of Today, Tomorrow and the Future’, this statue was donated by Mr Harold Richmond of Green Island. Crafted by English sculpture[sic] Cecil Thomas and cast by... Lomatia

Two small trees in the Australia collection area of Dunedin Botanic Garden had attracted my curiosity, I'd noticed they have similar foliage and appeared to be related. I shared some photos on twitter and it turns out they are Lomatia species. One of them even appears to be a weed-species further north in New Zealand.... Continue Reading →

Rock Garden Maples

Autumn photos of lovely maples displaying their colours in the rock garden at Dunedin Botanic Garden, New Zealand on 07 May 2022. The first two photos are by me and Nigel took the last one.

Complementary Companions

Two Camellias .. complementary companions. These pretty bright pink, and white-with-pink-blush, flowers look so nice together - a lovely selection to be planted side-by-side as they are at Dunedin Botanic Garden in New Zealand. Photos taken 07 May 2022. I don't have a name for the bright pink plant but the white/pink one is Camellia... Continue Reading →

Various Villains

On 16 June 2022 we visited the Winter House at Dunedin Botanic Garden, New Zealand ~ I've rounded up a few characters for you to meet. Three photos are from the Cacti Collection where I was fascinated by the little 'family' groups of cactus. I spent time with these and then in the next section,... Continue Reading →

Brightness and Cheer

~ can be a bit hard to find sometimes (especially in winter, as we are now) but on 16 June I walked across a bridge at Dunedin Botanic Garden and found this bright, thorny plant covering a large area of bank on the other side. It was very colourful and I took a couple of... Continue Reading →

Blue, Silver and Cinnamon

Three plants that grabbed my attention at Dunedin Botanic Garden on 07 May 2022. New Zealand. Love the colours and textures. The first two were in the Australia Collection and the third was nearby (but probably not Australian). The cushion bush is a plant I really love and I've grown a plant of it at... Continue Reading →

Canary Island Strawberry Tree

Love these gorgeous orange 'strawberry' fruit on Arbutus canariensis in Dunedin Botanic Garden, beside a path in the rock garden. We were there on 07 May 2022, autumn here in New Zealand. The tree itself is very pretty with nice foliage and a lovely pale tree trunk. I found an article about the botanic garden... Continue Reading →

Grass Heads

Did these turn heads? I don't know but they got my attention. Dunedin Botanic Garden, New Zealand. 07 May 2022 (autumn).

Old Seedheads

Back online again.. the internet in our region has been out for well over 24 hours and it's been so frustrating! Here's a quick post which would've been my next one anyway.. and while 'unconnected' I've been preparing folders of images for future posts. These seedhead photos were taken 07 May 2022, i.e. autumn. Found... Continue Reading →
