Best Little Cottage

This beautifully constructed stone cottage is in a place named Fruitlands in Central Otago, really lovely area. After navigating past the middle-of-the-road peacock we then drove on up the country lane until we reached this site, further up the hill. It's a really captivating place. Fruitlands, Central Otago, New Zealand. Photos taken by Liz 10... Continue Reading →

Arrowtown in Spring

I still have photos taken in an Arrowtown residential street from when we visited on 27 October 2018. This was right in the spring blossom time. Here is a lovely cottage with wisteria blooming under the tracery of the verandah and a layer of fallen cherry blossom petals coating the hedge and street verge. On... Continue Reading →

Romans Cottage, Arrowtown

At the end of the Miners' Cottages in Buckingham Street is Romans Cottage, this is where we were headed as it houses a very nice cafe named Provisions Of Arrowtown. We hadn't been there for many years and were glad to find them still in business, stopping there awhile for refreshments. Arrowtown, Queenstown Lakes District,... Continue Reading →

Which Way: Arrowtown

There's probably nothing that's more iconic of Arrowtown than the row of historic miners' cottages on Buckingham Street. This is a gold rush town and these cottages date back to the 1800s - I'm unsure of the exact date but we'd be talking 1870s to 1880s. Arrowtown, Queenstown Lakes District, New Zealand; photos taken by... Continue Reading →

Arrowtown Stone Cottage c1874

This beautiful stone cottage is very close to the main street of Arrowtown, just slightly up hill from the bakery. We've walked past it on our way back to the car many a time. It was up for sale again and no doubt its priceless - well beyond our reach anyway! Photos taken by Liz... Continue Reading →

Blue cottage in Bluff, Southland, New Zealand. From down in the town I spotted this cottage half-way up the hill and even from a distance it looked so cute! There's a dragonfly decoration near the front door

Pretty and Pink, Two’s Company

Yesterday I posted about a pink house in Eastbourne Street, Caversham that I spotted while we were driving down the street. There's another pink house directly across the road and together they make quite a statement. Here's a photo taken by Nigel that includes both houses (as well as me getting my photo). Eastbourne Street,... Continue Reading →

Filling in Time, Shaky Bridge

As strange as it may seem, time and a shaky bridge came together in a recent visit to Alexandra in Central Otago. Nigel was attending one day of a National Irrigation Conference. I kept him company for the trip but had the day to myself. The shaky bridge is a short walk out of the... Continue Reading →

Cottages in Clyde

From our overnight visit to Clyde at Easter I'm now left with just a few photos of cottages and a shot of a creeper with colourful red autumn foliage that was covering a stone wall. Clyde, Central Otago, New Zealand. Photo below: in the 1870s this cottage was the home of a Chinese man who... Continue Reading →
