Aging Gracefully

On my local walk 29 March when I took many photos, I caught the colours and textures of this weathered fire hydrant marker-post on the shaded side of a road at the outer edge of town. It's a concrete post painted yellow but nature's been very busy adding lots of extra interest! Nearby I found... Continue Reading →

Lemon and Lime

Lovely foliage in citrus colours from further up our street in Tapanui. We were driving back into town from a trip to Roxburgh on 17 April and these colours were so beautiful I asked Nigel to drop me off so I could catch some pre-sunset colour. I took these and a bunch of shots of... Continue Reading →

Golden Needles

While preparing this photo-post of a local golden pine, I searched online for "golden needles". Turns out there's a tea called 'Golden Needle' and even 'Golden Eyebrow'. Later, on twitter I found another tea named 'Golden Monkey', apparently it's delicious! For anyone interested, these teas are produced by Silk Road Teas. The golden pine tree... Continue Reading →

Blurring The Boundary

Bright yellow flowers break through the boundary of this property in Tapanui that has a silver fence facing the footpath. We often walk by here. The first photo was taken at a very bright time of day earlier in March and when the plant was at its best. The second and third photos were taken... Continue Reading →

Yellow Mystery

I noticed and liked this yellow-flowered plant at Gore Gardens on 25 February 2021. The flowers seem like Allium flowers but the ovary bulges didn't match with pictures of Allium flavum that I looked at - so I don't know what these are. Any ideas? Gore, Southland, New Zealand. Photo taken by Nigel. Text by... Continue Reading →

Wild and Weedy

These bright yellow flowers bloom along roadsides everywhere around here. Have been for weeks. This is by the Pomahaka River at Conical Hill, West Otago. New Zealand. I assume they're hieracium (hawkweed). Photos taken 19 Feb 2021. Click on any photo to enlarge. Text and photos by Liz; Exploring Colour (2021)

Monkey Musk

Can't help loving these yellow flowers even though they're a pest plant in New Zealand. The plant is called Monkey Musk. I took the photos yesterday when we were exploring a rough forestry road out in the country. River Rd, Conical Hill, West Otago. There is more information about the plant HERE. Click on any...
