Perspective

Driving through Tuapeka Mouth yesterday I saw all these wrapped bales in a farm field and immediately thought of Yayoi Kusama's art, her infinity rooms. Clutha District, New Zealand.

Blue Gloss

Yesterday we returned to Commissioners Track and spent some time on part of it, mostly checking out the weeds and the native plants. We're right into summer now and lots of plants are flowering including grasses. We found some very pretty weed flowers, and some rather nice native flowers too. But today's post is about... Very ‘Old School’

In April 1875 a new stone building was opened as a new one-room school for children in St Bathans (the part of the ruins nearest the lupins). In 1895 an additional room was added for infants (the part with a chimney). The school was abandoned in 1943 after earthquake damage. Central Otago, New Zealand. Photos... Continue Reading →

Remnant

Perhaps the remnant held a claim boundary peg back in the day. It was illegal to sluice away a peg. I was intrigued by the horizontal hole at the top through which I could see the blue sky. The two 'remnant' photos were taken by me. The photos of Blue Lake and eroded hillside slopes... Continue Reading →

Blue and Gold

Blue Lake at St Bathans in Central Otago was formed through gold mining activity from the 1860s till 1934. Originally the lake was a 120m high hill.. Kildare Hill.. which I've read was demolished via hydraulic sluicing in about 10 years. By using a hydraulic elevator the site of the now-gone hill became an ever-growing... Continue Reading →

Blue Door, Church

As we drove home Nigel made a stop at the fuel station in Clinton so I hopped out and wandered up the road to take a few photos of a church I like to keep an eye on. Something's afoot there but I don't know what - therefore I don't know the fate of the... Continue Reading →

Smiley Face Pansies

Smiley-face design in a garden bed of pansies. Yellow pansy faces with blue pansy eyes and smiles! This is a very large round garden bed that serves like a pedestrian round-about or traffic circle. The pansies inhabit a wide outer edge, immediately outside of a neatly trimmed low box hedge. 29 Oct. Alexandra public garden,... Continue Reading →

Hidden Colour

Hidden Colour. Glimpses of bright colour through trees revealed the presence of these colourful tulips - they were further along the same road as my recent big tulip-block photos - but single fields - and on the opposite side of the road. Seaward Downs, Edendale area, Southland, New Zealand. 22 October.

Big Colour

Big Colour.. fields of Tulips. Spring in Southland, New Zealand. Seaward Downs near Edendale. 22 October.

Blueberry Colour

These tulips I particularly like, their colour seemed different to anything else I'd seen and reminded me of blueberry. These were the last tulip fields we looked at on our first trip looking for tulips, which was 17 October. They remain a favourite even though we've done a second trip since then. Edendale area, Southland, New Zealand.
