Major Sales Push

This is an exhibit that I particularly enjoyed when I visited the Hurahia ana kā Whetū exhibition at the Dunedin Public Art Gallery on 13 June 2021. Untitled (1994), by Peter Robinson. I've included a photo of the information about the artwork, at the end of the post. New Zealand. Click on any photo to... Continue Reading →

Fried Egg

A bit of fun today, in response to blog-friend Mike Powell whose posts are full of facts, fun and fabulous fotos! This morning on Facebook I found he'd posted a photo showing the yellow-centre detail of a daisy and he said: "Yesterday morning I spotted this tiny green metallic sweat bee on a Shasta daisy... River Crossings

I was fascinated with this artwork in the Dunedin Public Art Gallery, viewed on 13 June 2021. With lots of mountains and hills, high rainfall in many places and snow in some, we have lots of fast-flowing rivers which can be extremely dangerous to cross (particularly after heavy rain). In the white settler days drownings... Continue Reading →

Creativi-Tee

When I was in Dunedin Public Art Gallery on 13 June I saw colourful patterns on the wall in the children's activity room. As usual I was drawn to the colour like a moth to flame and found a large wall area with colourful solid pins inserted into holes. I pulled out one of the... Continue Reading →

Sam Hunt, Portobello Pub

Had a couple of nights in Dunedin. One highlight was the opportunity to visit a new exhibition at Dunedin Public Art Gallery, an important one but I'll explain why in another post. When it opened to the public on Saturday we attended the introductory talk and then returned again today (Sunday). This painting (below) is... Continue Reading →

Energy & Form

Great trip this afternoon to Taiaroa Head! Returning to the city we drove past Robert Piggott Art Gallery and noticing it was open we thought we'd call in and catch up with owner/artist Robert who also exhibits other artists' work. His current exhibition Energy & Form opened last night and runs until 20th October -... Continue Reading →

Purple Roses and Prussian Blue

It was a rare treat Saturday afternoon to attend a poetry reading by five southern New Zealand poets at the wonderful Eastern Southland Gallery in Gore. The opportunity to hear poetry where we live is unusual. My title was inspired by colour content from two different poems, colours always make a big impression on me!... Continue Reading →

'Kupenga Sisters' by Jasmine Clark (Arrowtown). Made from woven copper wire, supplejack* and ratan. Viewed during my birthday visit to the 2019 Arts Gold Finalists Exhibition at Central Stories Museum and Art Gallery, Alexandra, Central Otago, New Zealand. Through Open Doors

Been out with Nigel celebrating my birthday and it's been a great day! I chose to go to Alexandra in Central Otago knowing that the museum-and-art-gallery has an exhibition of art from many different artists - works submitted for the Arts Gold Awards 2019. This first photo however was taken by Nigel a bit later... Continue Reading →

Pea Sea, Port Chalmers

Had to share this with y'all courtesy of 'rob allan'  @allanrob9  on Twitter. Port Chalmers is this wonderful port town near Dunedin. The huge container hoists down at the harbour dominate the town. Main street has an eclectic mix of old buildings.. real interesting place. This older post of mine shows the  huge hoists loading... Continue Reading →
