Gold miners massively transformed Central Otago, building incredible water systems to sluice hill faces and access gold. We did a wonderful walk today at Bannockburn, through the sluicings to Stewart Town. And wild thyme is everywhere.. Decision Thyme! New Zealand.
Birthday Time
Birthday time.. mine! I found this giant sundial this morning in Cromwell, Central Otago. Nigel 6'3" is with the dial in the 2nd photo. Hardly any roses are out yet and yet I found a "Celebration" rose! Plus the mountain clock way above Alexandra - which I photographed on our way here on Saturday. “So... Continue Reading →
White Tulips
I thought you may enjoy these WHITE tulips! ~note the beautiful lemony multi-petal beauties in the 2nd photo, they're lovely and fluffy-looking, making me think of meringue 😀 Edendale area, Southland, New Zealand 22 October.
Hidden Colour
Hidden Colour. Glimpses of bright colour through trees revealed the presence of these colourful tulips - they were further along the same road as my recent big tulip-block photos - but single fields - and on the opposite side of the road. Seaward Downs, Edendale area, Southland, New Zealand. 22 October.
Big Colour
Big Colour.. fields of Tulips. Spring in Southland, New Zealand. Seaward Downs near Edendale. 22 October.
Huge Tulip Fields
We were driving around the Edendale area looking for tulip fields and hit a bonanza when we saw there was colour up this gravel road. The bands of colour went on and on! It was simply amazing. Multiple huge fields, all planted in tulips. Southland, New Zealand. 22 October.
Purple and Red
Bounteous blooms! Tulips at Menzies Ferry, Edendale. Southland, New Zealand. 22 October.
Big And Bright
Second trip to the tulips, 22 October. Edendale area, Southland, New Zealand. Massive field with various bright stripes of colour, huge field!
Last Light
End-of-day spring blossom at Roxburgh, Central Otago 22 October. Sun disappeared as I was taking photos. Yellow laburnum, wispy pink tamarisk, mauve wisteria, white dogwood. And the wisteria was strongly scented! New Zealand
Lilac Spring
Lilac Spring in Roxburgh 22 October, evening. The first three photos are from a gorgeous lilac hedge, I was enveloped in the sweet fragrance while taking the pics. The iris I found in a completely different garden (the one where I took the paeony pics). Central Otago, New Zealand.
First Paeony
This is the first paeony I've seen this spring, in a private garden in Roxburgh, Central Otago, New Zealand. We were there yesterday evening 22 October 2022. Paeonies are pretty special!
Blueberry Colour
These tulips I particularly like, their colour seemed different to anything else I'd seen and reminded me of blueberry. These were the last tulip fields we looked at on our first trip looking for tulips, which was 17 October. They remain a favourite even though we've done a second trip since then. Edendale area, Southland, New Zealand.
