R. pachysanthum

My early-Spring report in response to questions on a previous blogpost. Rhododendron pachysanthum is one of a trio of special rhododendrons grouped close together in Bannerman Park, in Gore. This one had gorgeous cinnamon-coloured young foliage at the time, back in summer (16th January). I promised fellow bloggers Ann and Ellen I'd try to return... Continue Reading →

Fuzzy Buds, Beautiful Blooms

Robust buds and blooms on this Magnolia tree in Gore Gardens, 18 September 2022. Very messy form, but magnificent magenta blooms - a real stand-out in the early Spring garden. A real bright spark!

The first three photos were taken by me at Moa Flat when we pulled over to photograph the kōwhai tree in blossom.. it was looking very fine in the end-of-day sunshine. West Otago, New Zealand. 10 September (spring). And.. the last photo, by Nigel, was taken back in April (autumn), at Wilden, which is a... Continue Reading →

Lovely On A Good Day

Spring in Tapanui on a fine weather day, 11th September ~but today we're back to winter; snowed on the hill. Spring's fickle! West Otago, New Zealand.

The beautiful blossom, in pink and white, covered the hillside between the road and the mighty Clutha River / Mata-Au. Such an awesome pleasure to see all this before the blossom disappears. Central... Continue Reading →

It’s The Season!

Pink and white .. coconut ice. That's what came to mind when I saw these gorgeous orchard fruit trees. The orchard's at the southern end of the town of Roxburgh although the close-up photo was taken at a different orchard a bit further south. We were on our way to the nice cafe in Roxburgh... Plum Pigeon

After our chilly start to spring (cold wind, rain, sleet and snow) September 8th was much better, a gloriously fine day and I lost no time getting a load of washing 'done and hung'. End-of-day I trudged out to the line to get the washing, enjoying the melodious sounds of tūī song as I filled... Continue Reading →
