Christmas Lily

Fossicking among old photos I found this lily pic from 24 Dec 2019, taken with my old and basic cellphone in Dunedin Botanic Garden. I still love the flower! A search online reveals this flower has a variety of common names but in New Zealand it’s known as the Christmas lily. Lilium regale.

Other names according to Wikipedia are regal lily, royal lily and king’s lily 🙂

    1. Yes.. that’s true and I can understand where you’re coming from. These big fragrant trumpet blooms are a treat in the lead-up to Christmas and remind me of the angels bringing “good tidings of great joy” to the shepherds in the field, when Christ was born.

    1. In New Zealand, these plants come into bloom in the lead up to Christmas: “New Zealand Christmas Lily. An old perfumed favourite that usually flowers between early December and the New Year in most areas.” ~December being our first month of summer 🙂
