Ranfurly Station

Photos of the railway station in the town of Ranfurly in Central Otago, New Zealand taken 12 March 2022. In one of the photos you’ll see plenty of bike racks ~although no trains arrive anymore, many cyclists enjoy a refreshment stop here while doing the extremely popular Central Otago Rail Trail.

  1. I also like the fact that the station wasn’t torn down once the railroad stopped running. I wonder if there are any discussions to revive some of the old railroad lines, which is happening in some communities here.

    1. There was a wonderful railroad trip from Dunedin that headed in this general direction but not as far, called the Taieri Gorge Railway. It was a long day’s return trip but really worth it, a great ride. We went on one of the last rides before they closed it, we did it on 29 Dec 2019. I think they anticipated re-opening it but Covid happened and now the cruise ships aren’t coming so I’ve no idea if it’ll ever get going again now. I did some posts about it: https://exploringcolour.wordpress.com/?s=Taieri+Gorge
