Whisky Gully Creek

This was our first walk into the Whisky Gully entry to the Blue Mountains today, just up the road from home in Tapanui. Delightful! Here's two of my first pics, taken near the start of the track.. Whisky Gully Creek. Good Friday, afternoon, 15 April. West Otago, New Zealand. Click on either photo to enlarge.... Continue Reading →

Good Friday, Autumn

As I write, it is Good Friday in New Zealand. In fact, it's a good Good Friday! My first photo, of a colourful maple, was taken just over the road from where we live this morning. The day started off so quiet, with no traffic or trucks going past our cottage as would happen at... Continue Reading →

Yellow Shed

Standout yellow shed. It's by a stock yard and loading ramp, seen yesterday as we drove toward Dunback from Palmerston. Bright! Once spotted I had to have photos so Nigel obliged and turned around so I could get the pics. Otago, New Zealand. 13 April. Text and photos by Liz; Exploring Colour (2022)

Forum Cafe

Forum Cafe is in the town of Milton, a busy working town with the main highway running through the centre of town and lots of big trucks travelling through. Happily Milton has a lovely cafe with friendly staff and walls covered in bright murals. We've taken to breaking our journey there when going to Dunedin... Continue Reading →

Pink Autumn

Pink isn't a colour that I associate with autumn but not long ago I posted photos of showy pink Eucalyptus flowers and now Euonymous have their wonderful pink seedpods.. with orange berries! They're a delight and I often think of them as tiny pink pumpkins 😀 These photos were taken by Nigel when we went... Continue Reading →

To Be or Not To Be

Both of these photos were taken in the Moa Flat area of West Otago. The lead photo is one I took of roadside native tussock grass being blown by a strong breeze, I admired how lovely the long strands appeared as they were arranged by the wind into a horizontal position. We also found an... Continue Reading →

A Bit Steep

The 'steep gradient' sign made us laugh as the car appears to be doing a nose-dive! Trust me, we definitely weren't anywhere near that angle as we drove down the hill. At the bottom of my post is a map showing where we stopped (marked in red). First three pics were taken there ~first 2... Continue Reading →

Pink Fruit

As we drove home via Moa Flat on 02 April I spotted a fuzz of pink and suspected the pretty fruits of Euonymous. Love their bright colour in autumn! A wild bush growing in the roadside verge. West Otago, New Zealand. Photo taken by Nigel.

Whau

Dunedin Botanic Garden has a whau tree in a sheltered spot in their Native Collection. I took these photos on 04 April. The mature leaves are soft in texture and the same size as my hand, and the tree has very spiny seed capsules. Entelea arborescens or cork tree. New Zealand. 'Wh' is an 'f'... Continue Reading →

Clyde Shadows

These photos are from our trip to Clyde in Central Otago on 02 April. We arrived for the afternoon and it was bright and sunny, providing some interesting shadows. Clyde's a lovely town with lots of old schist stone buildings and a gold history dating back to the early 1860s. These days there's a major... Continue Reading →
