Geranium ‘Rozanne’

My favourite geranium flower, Rozanne, is so beautiful! To date she's never inhabited a garden of mine but I've admired her at garden centres. This afternoon I was delighted to find her beautiful blooms adorning a traffic island in Gore.. I was able to photograph them from the pedestrian crossing. Gore, Southland, New Zealand. ~Auckland... Fading Away, Fabulously

When we popped in to Bannerman Park on 18 April we had a look in the area of the hosta collection and I was delighted by the lovely colours displayed by some plants as their foliage fades away in this current autumn season. Way to go! Gore, Southland, New Zealand. Click on any photo to... Continue Reading →

Pink Sorbus Berries

I photographed these beautiful berries at Gore Cemetery on 18 April. After checking online I believe the tree is Sorbus hupehensis or Chinese rowan. Gore is in Southland, New Zealand. For more plant info, see this blogpost by a fellow NZer. In the same cemetery there's also a Sorbus with white berries that I posted... Continue Reading →

Imperial Camel Corps

We had a wander through Gore Cemetery on 18 April, it's a nicely 'tree'ed cemetery with amazing views to the Hokonui hills and out over the plain. When we reached a section where military veterans lie, I was amazed to find an inscription for a WW1 Trooper in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force who'd been... Continue Reading →

Bannerman Park Red

We had a brief walk in Bannerman Park at Gore on 18 April and some of the red autumn foliage colours caught my eye. Here's a selection of four photos taken during that little visit. It looks like I've got two photos each from two different maples. Gore, Southland. New Zealand. Click on any photo... Continue Reading →

Hedgehope Church

The night I took the moon photos, we were returning home from Hedgehope where we'd gone to enjoy the beautiful rural views in the lead-up to dusk. The only photos I took though, were of Hedgehope Church which is looking wonderful. I've learnt since that it's had a lot of work done on it in... Continue Reading →

White Sorbus Berries

Last night in Gore, Nigel spotted these spectacular white berries glowing in the darkening dusk. I've looked online and I'm pretty certain they're Sorbus glabriuscula aka S. glabrescens aka S. hupehensis (white-fruited form). Southland, New Zealand. Common names: Chinese Rowan or White-fruited Rowan Origin: China ~ Note: the colourful foliage is from a neighbouring plant.... Continue Reading →

Waikoikoi Moon

Driving home after a longish local joy-trip this evening, we were stunned to see a big orange moon rising over the brow of a hill. Nigel instantly pulled over into a side road so we could enjoy seeing it rise over the ridge. My camera on auto didn't do well but I've jazzed the shots... Continue Reading →

Easter Meditation

This is a meditation for Easter that I've put together using four photos and words beginning with the letter 'L'. The first two photos are mine, the third arrived in my twitter feed yesterday, the last was in Ann Mackay's blogpost last Sunday NZ-time. Photos by others are used here with their permission. Click on... Continue Reading →

! Cattle Stop

Cattle Stop on a back road in the Otago high country between Middlemarch and Macraes. The boundary sign defines the Waitaki District side vs Dunedin City side. I took these on April 13 when our car trip back involved a deviation from the usual route that we take when we return home from the east... Continue Reading →
