I love the scent of honeysuckle. Our red/pink one was rather sickly last year but there’s a pale yellow and white one at the back of the garden that’s trying to spread everywhere. Once the hibernation time for ladybirds is over I’ll have to attack it with secateurs before it strangles everything!

I think of it as the “pretty one”. There’s a lemon-coloured honeysuckle here in Tapanui that doesn’t look as pretty but pumps out a lot of fragrance!

I have fond childhood memories of picking honeysuckle flowers at the side of the road while walking to catch the school bus. Then sipping the nectar…strange what one remembers!
