Millers Flat Tavern

The Tavern sits parallel to a main highway while the blue single-lane bridge crosses the Clutha /Mata-au River to the small settlement of Millers Flat. Built 1926 and formerly called the Bridge Hotel, the building itself is fairly stark but the many colourful flowers and bright touches ensure a warm welcome as do the proprietors.... Teviot Woolshed

We were driving a gravel road near the small settlement of Millers Flat when we hurriedly pulled over to look at a strange ruin lying in a farm field. My last post's photo, 'Summer View, Millers Flat' was taken just after we'd got out of the car. Here's the rest [out-of-frame in the 'Summer View'... Continue Reading →

Super Cute Cottage

Returning to the street after wandering a riverside path in Roxburgh, I spotted this cute old cottage on the other side. Further along I enjoyed seeing somewhat humourous exotic phoenix palms. They're funny because they're chopped off at the back on account of the power lines. Which makes the tops of the palms lop-sided and... Continue Reading →

Clutha at Roxburgh

The river photos are of the Clutha River at Roxburgh from a riverside path, Sunday 23 Jan 2022. The Māori name Mata-au references the swift surface current of the river. The rest of the photos were taken from a spot in a small section of pine trees where I paused to enjoy the nice setting... Continue Reading →

Australian Frangipani

Lovely tree with 'honey-scented' yellow flowers. Several small specimens can be found in the Australia Collection of the Dunedin Botanic Garden. I like the look of the flowers, you just know they're going to be scented! And they're a shade of yellow I really like. This photo was taken on 18 Jan 2022. I've posted... Continue Reading →

Orchard Shop

Fruitful Sunday yesterday, 23 Jan. We headed over to Roxburgh with books, intending to read and eat fruit. Visited this lovely place, south end of Roxy. Bought fresh cherries and apricots, back later for yellow and white nectarines. Great orchard shop! The lady was very helpful with answering my questions. Roxburgh, Central Otago, New Zealand.... Stella

Introducing Stella, our local steam engine run by the West Otago Steam and Vintage Club. While loading the washing machine I heard lots of loud clanking and then Nigel called me. Looking out the door, there was Stella clanking and steaming her way up the street. I grabbed my camera and ran out the front... Continue Reading →

Pink Paws

Pink kangaroo paw flowers by an aviary at Dunedin Botanic Garden, New Zealand. 18 January 2022. Anigozanthos, in the Australia Collection. These bright pink weird-looking blooms don't quite look real but when you're there they're real enough .. a great favourite with me!

Flower in a Paw

Kangaroo Paw flowers are a wonderful treat in summer, a 'something special' from Australia that I adore. They have a few species growing in the Australian collection at Dunedin Botanic Garden and we visited on Tues 18 January so I was able to get a few shots of different kinds. New Zealand. Click on any... Continue Reading →
