Wild and wonderful dandelions taken at the end of a walking/taking photos wander when I was nearly home. The first two photos were taken at the local museum, in a raised bed that’s down their driveway. The dandelions in the last three photos caught my eye when I noticed all the spherical seedheads glistening in the light, they were irresistible. Tapanui, West Otago, New Zealand.

Namaste, Ms. Liz! It’s me, Benjamin and I am here cause it’s a vacation day today. Gem saved this for me cause I love Dandelions. My favorite thing is blowing on them when they are puffy white things. I made up a poem for Gem this year when I was blowing on them : I’m sending you Dandelion wishes filled with my kisses. Thank you for the pretty pictures. I like the second one the best of all. Thank you and Bye.

We always have some dandelions for the early bees. In past years I would feel a bit guilty if the seed had a chance to blow around and get into other folk’s gardens but now I don’t worry too much. The bees are more important!

Dandelion pics always seem to get a good response, I think most people like them even if they don’t tolerate them in the garden or lawn!

I think they bring back memories of childhood too – blowing the seeds off dandelion clocks. (Which must have spread a few extra into gardens etc. Oops!)

I LOVE these delightful photos of the lifelong beloved Dandelions in all their stages of glorious growth!! Whether one looks at a Dandelion as a weed or a flower is only a matter of perspective. Benjamin has always seen them as more than either of those! At the age of 6 & 1/2 when he saw my neighbor and the landscaper destroying the blooming Dandelion plants in her front yard, he gasped and ran over yelling : “Oh no! Your killing all the future wishes!” He was somewhat mollified when she pointed out that “Gem’s yard will provide an abundance of future wishes”. I am saving this post for Benjamin to enjoy on the Gem Sleepover next week. “Dandelions are just friendly little weeds who want to be loved like flowers.” – Heather Babcock. Thank-you!

Not everyone appreciates dandelions. Mary Beth tries to rid our lawn of them but after years of trying I have finally convinced her to let them be until other flowers bloom to take their place for pollinators who are just coming out of hibernation. Now she just deadheads them once they go to seed. The bumbles and honeys appreciate that. 🙂

Liking them saves much grief, there’s lots of them in NZ. Dandelions and buttercups both, but dandelions are so much nicer in both flower and foliage. Does Mary Beth dislike the colour yellow?

She has nothing against yellow at all…just the huge proliferation of dandelions crowding out other things. They don’t bother me at all but I do know the secret to a happy marriage. 🙂

🙂 I was interested because Nigel has found quite a few women profess to not like yellow when he discusses colour with them in the course of his landscape work. At one point ages ago I suggested he refer to it as ‘lemon’.

I guess for some it is a lemon of a color. I don’t think yellow is very fashionable for women’s clothing but nothing wrong with it for flowers. We have some lovely yellow daylilies.

Yellow’s not great on my pale skin but looks wonderful on dark-skinned people. Which made me think to do a search on Amanda Gorman and sure enough, she wore a Prada yellow wool coat when reciting her poem at Biden’s inauguration!
