Floral Highlights

Floral highlights from my birthday today, spent in Central Otago, New Zealand. 31 October, and it's spring in NZ. The day was very bright but generally cloudy. The public garden in Alexandra looked splendid! Lots of bright wildflowers in the Cromwell Gorge including the vivid California poppies. Horse chestnuts are flowering now and lots of... Seen at Dusk

Springtime walk along the road at dusk tonight, East Roxburgh. Central Otago, New Zealand. Broom (a weed species) glowed gloriously gold in the late light. Pale blossom is hawthorn. Text and photos by Liz; Exploring Colour (2021)

Puffy and Pink

Pretty spring blossom borne on street trees a block away from where we live, photos taken during a pleasant morning walk on 25 October. The trees were laden and it was difficult to know how to compose the pictures, thankfully most pics turned out ok. Tapanui, West Otago, New Zealand.

Ornate Gate

On a local walk this morning.. Solomon's Seal in flower, complementing an ornate gate. Polygonatum sp. Tapanui, West Otago, New Zealand. ~Liz.

Profusion of Pink

We took a drive in the late afternoon through some back country farmland, and in the Park Hill area we came across these fluffy cherry blossom flowers. I thought cherry blossom were pretty much past it now but these were still a profusion of pink. It was in the outer, wilder, part of a farmhouse... Continue Reading →

Fanciful

My fanciful mind imagined this as an arched window from a ruined medieval abbey. It's just a bent-over tree in the bush at Black Gully Reserve, Tapanui, West Otago. Photo taken during a short bush walk yesterday afternoon. New Zealand.

Cause to Pause

We did a little walk in the local bush at Black Gully Reserve, late this afternoon. Here's two things that made me stop. The first photo was taken at the end of the walkable part of the track. The track should go further but just peters out. Even the track marker has fallen down -... Continue Reading →
