When we were at Fortrose on 21 February 2021 the tide was low and oystercatchers were busy feeding on the exposed flats and in the shallows. The Catlins, Southland, New Zealand.

Oyster catchers are my favourite sea birds. They’re mostly black in our neck of the woods.

Mine too! Actually oystercatchers are my favourite of any sort of bird. My wife thinks I’m mad!

It’s so nice to see these birds, partly because it brings back memories of walking along the beach near my childhood home with my Dad and him telling me that these were oystercatchers. (Long, long ago!)
