We much admired these marine-theme lantern shades adorning the cafe in the Royal Albatross Centre at Taiaroa Head, Otago Peninsula. The two shades featured here are signed ‘M.Tuffery’. I assume the artist is Michel Tuffery, https://micheltuffery.co.nz/

Felt ashamed I previously wasn’t aware of who he is … mind you, somewhere I’ve come across the cow sculpture made of corned beef cans – it sure left an impression!

Yeah me too! I have seen that, it’s in Te Papa Museum. Also around the waterfront in Wellington there are big kina shells there and they are very pretty…he made them too. I am going to ask him if he would like to be interviewed for a section of my blog called ‘Artists and Writers in Their Own Words’, not much benefit for him as he’s so famous but maybe he will do it because I am a big fan hehe

Cool! Kind of like Chinese ceramics, in a way, but the designs look more Celtic, I really like these!

I don’t know if you clicked through to Michel Tuffery’s website but he’s an amazing artist. I didn’t know about his work prior to seeing the shades – actually I’d seen one piece – the ox made out of corned beef cans but was unaware of his wider body of work!

I’d like to be, under the sea, in an octopus’s garden, in the shade…🎵😊

Really, Liz? That amazes me. I still hear it regularly on the radio. But I’m glad you enjoyed it.

I love these! I’m always fascinated by lights out of the ordinary. Sometimes overlooked, they can be beautiful works of art.

Very cool, love the designs and how they fit in that space with the wood ceiling.

Oh absolutely … it was a fabulous space Ellen! So nice that I asked Nigel to get me a pinot gris and I contentedly sat at table sipping my wine 🙂
