These photos were taken a few days before New Zealand went into the first lockdown for Covid-19, back in March. It was a beautiful autumn weekend and we drove to Central Otago and ended up in Ophir. Taken 22 March 2020.

The gentle contrast between the nearly-perfect white of the butterfly and the pastel periwinkle of the asters is like a watercolor painting and is especially effective in the enlarged view. Ah, spring–bring it on!

Very pretty paired together, Liz, white butterfly and purple asters with sunny yellow centers.

Lovely images Liz – the colors pop against the purity of the white butterfly. We will all have some “interesting” memories of pre and post pandemic life, won’t we?!

These are lovely shots, Liz. I love the violet color of the asters and simple whiteness of the butterfly that looks a lot like the one I know of as a Cabbage White butterfly (Pieris rapae). Asters are now in bloom where I live as we enter into autumn, almost exactly six months after you snapped these photos in your early autumn.

Thanks, Liz, for the virtual hug. It’s not quite as good as the real one, but during these pandemic times, it’s the best we can do. 🙂
