Asters and White Butterfly

These photos were taken a few days before New Zealand went into the first lockdown for Covid-19, back in March. It was a beautiful autumn weekend and we drove to Central Otago and ended up in Ophir. Taken 22 March 2020.

  1. The gentle contrast between the nearly-perfect white of the butterfly and the pastel periwinkle of the asters is like a watercolor painting and is especially effective in the enlarged view. Ah, spring–bring it on!

  2. These are lovely shots, Liz. I love the violet color of the asters and simple whiteness of the butterfly that looks a lot like the one I know of as a Cabbage White butterfly (Pieris rapae). Asters are now in bloom where I live as we enter into autumn, almost exactly six months after you snapped these photos in your early autumn.
