On Friday in Dunedin we took some time to just relax and enjoy chilling-out for a while, although we chose nice cosy places to visit! Laneway is a great cafe/bar in the centre of Dunedin, down a quiet side lane called Bath Street. It’s possibly my favourite place of all to visit. We went inside to find the wood fire burning and gratefully sunk into the comfy sofa [reminder: it’s winter in NZ].
We ended up deciding to stay in Dunedin for another night and had dinner at Zucchini Brothers, a very favourite gourmet pizza and pasta restaurant although we didn’t take any photos, just relaxed. Afterwards we drove to Port Chalmers to enjoy drinks at The Portsider and ended up also getting dessert and playing Scrabble!

Lovely to see your smile…you look as if you’re having a good time. It must feel wonderful to go out to have a meal and relax – it will be a while yet before we do! (But we’re managing to be very relaxed at home. 🙂 )

One thing in your favour is that it’s summertime and you’re fortunate to have your own nice home and garden – I’m so glad that at least you have that – and under lockdown you *do* adjust to spending most of your time at home. It’s great you can enjoy true relaxation there Ann!

Absolutely, Liz! We’ve realised just how lucky we are to live here and have what we do. We’ve made the most of our time in the garden this year and have been able to keep ourselves very busy at home – and really relax too!

Looks very cozy indeed. I always prefer fireplace season to air-conditioning season.

A fireplace is perfect in winter! A pub/restaurant in Gore replaced their big open fireplace with a gas fire. We went a couple more times but the ambience was gone and we haven’t bothered going back again!

What??? Neither of you could use any of the triple-word score ops in the corners? You must be very good friends indeed (good to see)? My other beloved family members would have pounced on them like a kea on a kiwi fruit!

Haha, no we take every opportunity we see but we did go on to use some triple-word scores further on in the game! “kea on a kiwi fruit” 🙂

Very cosy. Some good Scrabble words there…did you get a 50 points bonus using all your letters in “Explores”?

Haha, I’d forgotten about that bonus but this didn’t qualify as it was a composite of 3 turns. I started the game with ‘lore’. Nigel asked if he could add ‘s’ and I agreed that should be allowed so he was able to add ‘saute’ which you can see he had waiting on his letter rack in the bottom photo. Nigel got the blanks so he was able to later add ‘exp’ to ‘lores’ 🙂

We play every Sunday afternoon. Yesterday, Mrs P began one game with “walnuts” and chalked up her 50 points bonus before I’d even looked at my letters for the first time. We played 5 games altogether, and I lost 4-1. Mrs P’s very good at Scrabble! Sadly I’m not 🙁

I have two Scrabble mavens in my immediate family. I seldom join in a game with them–unless (a) I’ve finished whatever book I’m reading and don’t have another handy, (b) there’s no internet, (c) the munchies are gone, (d) there’s no pet around to cuddle, and (e) there’s no beer or wine left.
