Winter Colours

We needed to go to Invercargill this afternoon so I could return some library books. Cold, grey, wet day. We didn't have anything else planned so I suggested to Nigel we visit a homeware / home furnishings shop to check what they stock. The best thing about the visit was being confronted with lots of... Album Page – Dunedin NZ

On Friday in Dunedin we took some time to just relax and enjoy chilling-out for a while, although we chose nice cosy places to visit! Laneway is a great cafe/bar in the centre of Dunedin, down a quiet side lane called Bath Street. It's possibly my favourite place of all to visit. We went inside... Continue Reading →

Brightening a Dull Day

We arrived in Dunedin on Thurs 25 June to attend Kay's book launch and Nigel was getting car things attended to during the day so I was free to wander. It was a grey drizzly day, not pleasant. I left the motel to get some food but got distracted. First by the winter house in... Continue Reading →

Pearly Gates

We found this attractive and fragrant shrub in the Dunedin Botanic Gardens when we were wandering around some paths at dusk. The plant is Osmanthus 'Pearly Gates'. I asked Nigel to take the first photo for me, composed so the 'Pearly Gates' flowers are set against the pearly sky. Dunedin, New Zealand 26 June. Click... Continue Reading →

Upturned – Book Launch

This evening we attended a book launch at University Book Shop in Dunedin for the fourth book of poems by Kay McKenzie Cooke whose poetry I enjoy enormously. Kay is a Dunedin poet who was born and raised in Southland and the book includes poems that specifically relate to places not far from where I... Continue Reading →

Silent White

This morning we left home quite early and drove through remote farmland. The sky was beautiful and bright with stars. Then ahead of us we could see a low-lying, long black cloud - pitch black. We both commented on it and wondered what it was. Further along the road we entered extremely dense fog forcing... Continue Reading →

Tussock, Hills and Sheep

These are the last photos I'm sharing from when we drove to Waikaia from Tapanui last Saturday 13 June, such a beautiful day! Southland, New Zealand. I'm going to take a bit of a break from blogging for a while, probably just a few posts here and there on a random basis. I'll keep an... Continue Reading →

Winding Creek Road

When we drove from Tapanui to Waikaia on Saturday it was cold outside. We found these lovely icicles by the roadside, spotted them from the car. Like a special little grotto! Nigel took these photos, 13 June 2020. These photos were all taken at this place. If you'd like to see the road a map ... Continue Reading →

Peering at the Moon

This morning I was again up reasonably early so I peered out the front door expecting to see a boring grey cloudy day. There were no vibrant colours like yesterday morning but enough to interest me that I tried taking a couple of photos from our front porch. Tapanui, West Otago, New Zealand The Moon... Waikaia River in Winter

Soon after we left the town of Waikaia on Saturday 13 June, I suggested to Nigel that we turn down a side road that headed straight toward the Waikaia River. It gave us access to the riverside and I took these photos with my cellphone. It's now winter here in New Zealand. Waikaia is in... Continue Reading →

Sunrise in Tapanui

These photos taken about 45mins ago in Tapanui, West Otago, New Zealand. Sunrise viewed from our front door. Taken by Liz, 17 June 2020. Text and photos by Liz, Exploring Colour (2020)

Candy Floss Clouds

Writer Jane Dougherty shared a photo of pink sunset clouds with an imaginative poem inspired by the view, in Come and play with the cloud people. She also invited readers to 'borrow' her photo to inspire their own poem or prose. I started playing with words for a haiku and the lines came together surprisingly... Continue Reading →
