I’m all enthused about ‘landscapes’ which is unusual for me. The word ‘landscape’ gets way overused, appearing in all sorts of contexts that have nothing to do with real landscapes. November Square-A-Day Landscapes by Jill Kuhn is a wonderful exception – this is my reblog of her 02 Dec post.

November Square-A-Day — Landscapes
I created landscapes from my imagination for my November Square-A-Day project.
Using a variety of art supplies, I explored simplicity with Copic markers, color pencils, watercolor, Gelli-plate prints and Pan Pastels.

I thought this quote summed up this month’s project perfectly!

A propos the quote: like many floating about on the Internet, it differs quite a bit from what the author actually wrote. As best I can tell, this is Proust’s original in La Prisonnière:
“Le seul véritable voyage, le seul bain de Jouvence, ce ne serait pas d’aller vers de nouveaux paysages, mais d’avoir d’autres yeux, de voir l’univers avec les yeux d’un autre, de cent autres, de voir les cent univers que chacun d’eux voit, que chacun d’eux est….”
“The only true voyage, the only Fountain of Youth, would not be to head out for new landscapes but to have different eyes, to see the universe through the eyes of another, of a hundred others, to see the hundred universes that each one of them sees, that each one of them is….”

Thank you Steve! It’s kind of you to share this as I’d have never been aware of it or even likely to come across it. It makes very interesting reading.

For years now it’s bothered me that some folks feel free to take what someone said or wrote, change it, and pass it off as the original. People who then see the altered version have no way to know, short of doing research, that it’s not the original. The fact that I can read French helped in this case, but if the original had been in a language I don’t know I’d have had to rely on someone’s translation, and translation in its own right introduces another possible alteration of the original meaning.

These are lovely, Liz. I have always admired people who are able to paint, as all I can do is draw stick figures. 🙂

Well if you get some paints and arm yourself with a brush instead of pencil, you’ll be able to paint! (Says she who bought watercolour paints and brushes before winter and has not yet touched them – hmmm!) I am going to have a go though and soon … why don’t you ??? We could encourage eachother – fun. I DARE YOU 🙂
