Clyde Spring Gardens

We were in Clyde on Nov 27, 2019 and had a walk around some of the residential area, enjoying the home gardens. Roses, peonies and lavender were much in evidence. Although we've grown green-flowered lavender ourselves in the past I think the lavender below is only green because the flower buds are immature. Clyde, Central... Continue Reading →

Australian Flowers

are amazing! They come in a fabulous array of different shapes and colours, and many are very, VERY eye-catching. These are flowers that we saw in our own country, New Zealand - in the Australian section of the Dunedin Botanic Garden on Sunday 24 November 2019. Dunedin, New Zealand. These photos were both taken by... Continue Reading →

Really Bright Yellow

Here's a louder, brighter yellow than in my last post. This is Genista hispanica (Spanish broom) displaying real flower power. Maple Glen Garden, Glenham, Southland, New Zealand. Visited Nov 17, 2019. This was one of the brightest lights in the garden! First photo taken by Nigel, other photos by Liz. Click on ANY photo to... Continue Reading →

Lighting The Way

When we visited Maple Glen Garden on Nov 17, these plants added a glow to the garden. Laburnum and variegated irises putting on a show. Along with colourful azaleas and rhododendrons, plants were filling the garden with light and colour. Maple Glen Garden, Glenham, Southland, New Zealand. Photos by Liz and Nigel. Laburnum Photos 1... Migrant To New Zealand

Here's a bird that arrives in New Zealand during Spring and departs before Winter, our very own fair weather friend. It has a distinctive call so we know when it's arrived. Generally it doesn't hang around at low levels - instead it's usually up in the tree canopy where it's almost impossible to spot so... Continue Reading →

Electrifying Colour

Brilliant colour from the azaleas at Maple Glen. If you love bold and bright colours then you really mustn't miss seeing what's on offer at D’Illimination, Jardin des Plantes, Paris. Damien visited on 26 November and has posted nearly 40 photos on his blog under the heading Oceans of Colour - lots of marine themed... Continue Reading →

Giving Thanks

Because many Americans are focussed on Thanksgiving this is a simple post of some lilies that I enjoyed seeing on a table in a Roxburgh cafe yesterday. The blooms seemed huge although that aspect doesn't seem obvious in these photos. They were the biggest lily blooms of this type that I remember seeing. I enquired... Continue Reading →

My Dream Home

In Dunedin on Sunday in the central city, I noticed this lovely house with beautiful and delicate tracery adorning the entrance and balcony. I was over there like a shot to take photos with my cellphone despite the overly bright light conditions. It was a case of love at first sight, I thought it simply... Continue Reading →

Jimmy’s Pies in Roxburgh

Roxburgh in Central Otago is the home of Jimmy's Pies. We often eat Jimmy's pies locally, getting them from the pie warmer in the Four Square down the road from where we live in Tapanui. Yesterday we were able buy them from the source - the bakery is based in the small town of Roxburgh.... Continue Reading →

Incantation Again

Here's most of the detail photos we took of the huge 8m x 3.5m canvas artwork that I showed you inside James Robinson's home studio at Port Chalmers, and also a link back to that post:  Edgeland Teleprompter Incantation. The gigantic work is a tribute to current NZ poet laureate David Eggleton. Port Chalmers, Dunedin,... Continue Reading →

Old Adverts

For what seems like ages, I've been wanting to photograph these old advertisements that were done up in 2017 and look stunning. The building is the former Ravensbourne Store which you drive by when travelling between Port Chalmers and Dunedin City. New Zealand. Photos taken by Liz and Nigel, 24 Nov 2019. Click on any...
