Many cafes and shops in small rural towns have a notice near the entrance requesting that muddy boots be left outside the door. Perhaps this could be a useful indicator of a good cafe! Certainly Top Nosh in Tapanui is deservedly popular and as we left the cafe on Sunday I noticed lots of boots and asked Nigel to photo them 🙂

How funny 🙂 I hope it’s not wet inside …

I have seen the floor dirty-wet between the door and the counter when it’s a wet day – I’m unsure how the rules play out on a day like that!

Maybe you have to jump over any wet bit… 🙂

And if you can’t quite make it across then at least execute a graceful skid to counter.. hehe 🙂

LOL! Maybe to be greeted by a round of applause from the other customers and marks out of 10 for the skid… 🙂

I hope they are offering warm slippers to wear indoors. Or else, I would have to bring my own. It would not be comfortable to sit in a cafe with cold feet.

That’s a fair point Tanja. People here who’d be wearing muddy boots at cold time of year would usually also be wearing thick heavy working socks (and probably wouldn’t be seen dead wearing slippers!) There’s no slippers provided 🙂 It would definitely be BYO.. which has its own charm!

I would at least carry a pair of thick socks in my purse to slip on, if needed. 🙂

I’ve seen this sort of thing in quite a few rural places and it seems a great idea to me too. I always like to judge somewhere by the cleanliness and indeed the presence of soap in the toilet (after the food quality of course) because without soap, you have to wonder about the staff serving you…😄

LOL Liz – perhaps the 5-star methodology could become 5-boots!!

It’s good to see they supply a welly-puller to help get your muddy boots off.
