Here's a couple of houses decorated for Christmas in Gore, Southland, New Zealand from a late night drive around that Nigel and I did on Friday 21 December. Summer Flowers

Here's some photos that we've taken of the flowers currently blooming in the garden of the property that we rent in Gore, Southland, New Zealand. Christmas Moon

Last night we sallied out into the town to see what Gore has to offer in the way of decorated houses at Christmas, assisted by a small article in the local paper that mentioned four or five places. We found them all and more, and were impressed with the efforts that some people go to... Continue Reading →

Plough Wind Vane

We were leaving Tapanui last night when we drove past a particular property and I spotted a wind vane! I haven't seen any for a while so it was exciting to find this one. Switzers Church

Switzers is the location of the old gold town that preceded Waikaia and its about 3km from the Waikaia village. You turn off onto a gravel driveway that goes up a hill, and around the bend this lovely little church is revealed. Switzers dates back to the gold mining days of the 1860s. Photos taken... Perching Orchid

When we were in Queens Park in Invercargill on 28 November, Nigel spotted this orchid perched in a tree on the main path. He took some photos as we both thought it looked attractive perched in the mature tree. I assume its one of our native orchids - we've seen plants just like this perched... Continue Reading →
