Sergeant Dan on the wall of the old porridge factory in Gore is all decked out for Christmas. Nigel and I were surprised on 22 Oct to find that Sergeant Dan is now sporting a Santa hat courtesy of the local radio station.

I love this, Liz, even if he is rather early, he couldn’t even get past Halloween, but he is so adorable. Sgt Dan leads the way, he may be early but he’ll get us there on time! Hohoho…

I did click Like for your captures, Liz, but sure don’t like the rushing of the seasons and holidays. I may be turning into a bit of a grump but special days don’t seem so special anymore 😦

I thought only people in N. America started to put out Christmas decoration this early, Liz. Is this unusual?

Sadly not. Personally I’d prefer they wait till at least mid Nov and then make a big thing of it so that its special. But I’ve seen a few shops in Gore with Christmas displays including the department store which has a huge white winter scene – looks totally ridiculous alongside all the spring stuff they’re promoting alongside. It was weeks ago I noticed these displays – so they start real early!

The start to the Christmas season seems to happen earlier each year. No doubt, that’s a purely commercial decision. I like the decorations but agree with you and think we should begin later, and then make a big deal of it.
