This tree fern is in the garden opposite the entrance kiosk. Its retained all its dead fronds which make a dense skirt around the trunk.
Me getting my shots and providing some scale to SO’s photo!
Here (above) you can see the new frond growing in the gap at the top.

I love it! Kind of has a ‘Cousin It’ feel. hahaha

Thank you very much for your observation. My father wouldn’t allow TV in our house when I was a kid and I’d never seen the cartoon or The Addams Family. So when I saw a photo of Cousin Itt on Wikipedia just now I was greatly taken with the similarity … made me smile! Good start to the day 🙂

Thank you so much for your comment – it set me off on a very interesting thread of discovery which I’ve done a new blog-post about at https://exploringcolour.wordpress.com/2017/08/21/cousin-itt/

Wow! What a stunning fern! Takes you back to the dinosaur era almost 🙂 I like ferns of all kinds, but this would be just a little too big for my garden 😉

Glad you enjoyed this Pete because we just love this tree fern too. Judging by the photos I’ve seen on your blog, of ice on your car, I’d hazard a guess that sadly you’d have a hard time growing a tree fern in your garden! Got any plans to move to Cornwall?

I love this fern. In the rain forest on the West Coast I took a lot of photos. Absolutely stunning plant!

Yes! The tree ferns are stunning over there. They do so well in the warmer, wetter climate of the West Coast.
